Azusa Pacific University 2011/2012 Applicants

U.S.A. California

Hello all,

I'm applying to APU's NP program this January and am sooo excited and nervous! I'm really trying to get accepted to start in Fall 2011 as I don't want to wait until spring 2012. This is my first choice (I've already applied to another school here) and I've GOT to get in! Is anybody out there waiting for decisions or has advice for the application process? I would've applied sooner, but they just implemented a rule where you have to have 12 completed credits for science, so I had to wait until grades got posted.

WOOHOO! CAN'T WAIT TO START!

can someone give me a clarification? i'm interested in EL-MSN adult CNS or adult NP program. how long is the whole program going to be? i have it as three years. is it correct? first 4 semesters for pre-licensure and the rest is the master's portion???

@kris443,

I graduated from UC Irvine with a B.S. in Biological Sciences in June 2011. My overall GPA from there was ~3.3 because of a bad freshman year (definitely had an upward trend with my grades). I took all prereqs except Anatomy, Human Development, Speech, and Research @ UCI because of my major.

Once I factor in those classes (all As), my prerequisite GPA was ~3.6-3.8. I probably had 60% Bs, 40% As. They may have averaged out my chemistry classes because I took 3 general chemistry classes with lab and 3 organic chemistry classes with lab (a lot more than required -__-). I volunteered at a hospital my sophomore year for ~6 months, but worked at an optometry office for 3 years.

I think they took into consideration that a lot of my science work was done at the university level and were more forgiving for having Bs instead of As. I was worried when I saw that people with 4.0s were having trouble getting into school. Just be genuine and know in your heart it's what you want- they'll be able to tell.

I'm not sure what you mean by tracks, but there are three campuses. All three accept a class for Fall. Inland and SD also accept for Spring and Summer, but the Azusa campus is Fall only. Hope this helps!

I went to wake forest for my undergrad and had an athletic scholarship. I had a terrible GPA and majored in Communications and minored in Sociology. I pretty much just wanted to get school over with and graduated with a 2.9. I went back and took my pre-reqs and got all A's and B's.

Stats- A

O chem- A

Micro-A

Anatomy- B

Physio- B

Developmental Psych- A

Nutrition- A

I think my interview with Azusa is what really sealed the deal. I also had really great recommendations. i think its really important just to not get a C in any pre-reqs.

oh and also- i did the internship program through Pomerado health. Definitely recommend it.

Hi for anyone who has started what's your weekly schedule look like ? Are you super busy all day or are the classes only half day or evenings?I'm applying and am interested what the class schedule is like..Thanks -Aishah

I just got a call in the beginning of April saying that they want an interview on 4/19/12. I opted for an in-person interview rather than a phone since im hoping that face-to-face will convince them more of accepting me. How long did everyone wait until you heard from them? From what I've read, im guessing that I wont hear from them until June. I'm hoping I find out soon since I'm dedicated to University of Vermont right now, but if APU accepts me then Id rather go there since it would be relatively cheaper and closer to home (Im from San Jose). I just wanted to clarify that if I get in, it would be for the spring session right? And for spring they only accept for SD or SB right?

Chi flavored, Yes, the main campus only accepts applicants in the Fall, but Sd and SB accept fall, spring, and summer.

Which campus are you interviewing at?

First of all thank you to all those who responded!

To all those who applied to APU/ are going to APU,

What is your take on the super christian mission and morals of the school. Is this factoring into why you want to go/don't want to go to APU. To those of you in the program, is religion/Christianity evident throughout the program. I know we have to take at least one 'religion' type of class.

I hate to say it, but the super christian vibe is totally turning me off of this school, in spite of the fact that the program they offer looks great. Anyone out there have anything to say about this.

I am waiting to hear back about SP 2013 at the SD campus. I have already been accepted to SFSU and PLU in Washington.

I will be attending Azusa this fall at the SD campus and I too was slightly concerned about the religion factor too when making my decision. I was able to speak with a current student and she said religion is really not a factor during the program, especially being at the satellite school. She mentioned, yes if you want religion to be incorporated into your studies you can become involved in some of the extra things they offer for that, but in general she said it really is not infused into the program too much. She also mentioned there are many other students of different religions that attend the program and they are comfortable and never forced to do anything they don't want.

I am not a very religious person at all, so I wanted to make sure it wasn't overwhelming in the program...and from what I can tell they respect those of us who do not wish to incorporate that into our studies. I had a difficult choice between choosing between Azusa and Columbia, but at the end of the day Azusa looked like a great program and was very cost friendly compared to other programs. They are also really trying hard to build a great program in SD, so I think we will benefit from that and their desire to become a great program. Good Luck with your decision!

BTW, I am not anti-religion in general, just a little turned off by it in a educational setting. Hope I am not offending anyone!

@ KKandes,

Thank you for your response and the information! Good Luck and who knows, maybe I'll see you there!
