AVC RN FALL 2023

U.S.A. California

Hello, I thought I’d start this forum for any students with questions, planning to apply to AVC’s Fall RN 2023.
I currently have 45 points overall and still have yet to take the TEAS. My goal is to get at least an 82% so I can get the 20 points to increase my points to 65. Other than that, I’m not sure how else to raise my points since I don’t have any other certification. I know Spanish but I don’t have anyone to sign the form for it…

Hi! I'm applying to the AVC RN program 2023 (LVN-RN bridge route). I have 65 points right now for AVC as well.

How did you do on the TEAS? I just took the TEAS a few days ago and I scored a 74.7%, but I really needed an 85%+ to raise my points, so I'm a little bummed and have been down the last few days about my TEAS score affecting my points. But I'm still hoping maybe I'll get lucky and get in??. Are you applying to any other schools?

Hi, I'm still studying for the TEAS. I hope to take it end of January or beginning February online.

I can't really afford to move anywhere else tbh so AVC is really the only option for me right now. I'm also planning to apply to the LVN program here as a backup plan just in case so I can get a head start and get a feel of nursing.

73.7% is really good. How was it? I'm currently using the smart edition academy course to study for the TEAS. I honestly like it but I'm still not sure about the science portion & math conversions I should know. Any advice or topics you remember seeing on the test?
It sucks how competitive nursing is. I have a feeling you'll get in though. I think they changed the RN application regarding the points so maybe they changed it for lvn to RN too.

I used Smart Edition also and liked it. The English, reading and math weren't too bad, very basic and I feel like SEA did a decent job at prepping me for those sections. I also had Jakara Lewis' TEAS Math book, which helped me A LOT too.

I also supplemented by watching tutor geek, Nurse Cheung and Professor Yu on YouTube. Brandon Craft (via SEA and YouTube). Carolyn Mcallister on YouTube for english and reading.

The science was tricky, it was very broad and a little all over the place, I also got a few questions that really were not in anything that I studied, which threw me off a little.

From what I've heard from others, it really is different with each version. You should definitely be comfortable with every body system though because you will get 3-4 questions from each body system.  It is definitely 90% A&P, 5% Chem and 5% Bio/Life sciences

Okay thanks! I'm currently studying the math & English portion. Definitely going to be supplementing Jakara Lewis on YouTube for math conversions.
Did you take the TEAS online? If you did, did you have any technical/ internet issues?

I took the TEAS in person because I heard of too many technical issues with doing it from home.

Oh okay. I wasn't able to make the registration to take it in person so I have to take it online. I'm hoping everything goes well for me.

Good luck! Keep in touch! We may end up being classmates??! I plan on applying Feb 1. I hate that it takes 2 months to get an answer as to whether we got in or not ?

Thanks & goodluck to you as well!

The counselor just responded to my email and she said they did change the point system a bit but its still out of 100 for the generic RN program (not sure if this is the same for the lvn-RN). They have been currently accepting overall points of 60 or higher however I'm not sure how it would change after the new change. It may just depend on how many apply & what their overall points are.  Just something I thought I'd share.

Thanks so much for sharing that info! I really appreciate it!

Hey so I sent my TEAS transcripts to AVC. Does anyone know if I have to print it out too and send that along with my application or it it just the transcript I send through ATI?

I just dropped off my application packet on Wens. I just sent the transcript from ATI, I didn't include it with my application because it doesn't say to attach it in the application steps on the AVC's RN webpage. It says has to be on file with health and safety sciences, which when I met with AVC counselor they said that means on file with student services/admissions and records the nursing department has access to the info.

But in addition to sending the TEAS transcript to the school, if you feel safer also attaching a printout with your application packet definitely do that too.
