Austin Community College ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hi pre-nursing students!

So I know it's extremely early but I figured I'd go ahead and start a thread for Spring 2020 applicants. I'm a huge worry bug and have tons of questions and would love to give and receive advice throughout this process. I'm completing my last two prerequisites this spring and will be applying when the application opens on May 15th! Tell me about your journey and ask questions about mine!

Is only a select number of applicants that get these petitions? If so, how do they decide who is getting one? What’s their selection criteria?

All qualified applicants get them, as far as I know. I believe the order in which they go out is by application date.

No one has gotten one yet. I just checked the available classes and no one has registered.

I did the same thing!

But yeah everyone gets one if you qualified because they want you to take the class but no real decision on if you get in until October.

They select by whomever applied first, nothing to do with points.

Pretty sure points and application date are both considered. It would not be beneficial for the program to give those not in high standing access to a class based solely on application date and refuse those with high standing.

When I took my HESI, Cindy told us that petitions are sent based application date. Though 1105 is not included when calculating your rank, you can not be ranked until the class of completed. So I don’t think rank comes matters which is kind of a bummer if the classes fill up.

That can't be accurate because I know 2 people who got accepted before completing the class. I think she's just saying that the class isn't included in your ranking period.

I agree with this. I'm actually not even done with micro yet and Cindy told me to apply. This was before they had extended the deadline and I got the impression it was so they could fill the 1105 classes beginning in August.

It’s all pretty confusing, she was pretty clear on what she said and repeated it, I even confirmed on my way out because the website says only students a high enough ranking we get petitions but that they go out after the application deadline which is now 8/12 but then the applicant update page says that petitions are going out this week, so who really knows.

The application page says that if you're in 1105 and don't get accepted, to NOT drop the class. So, this is what I think happens:

We get waivers based on meeting minimum requirements and application date. (I have no idea what this means for me since I'm finishing a class but I'm hopeful!)

Acceptance comes mid-October, before the first session ends. This means your acceptance is contingent on passing 1105.

They don't want people who don't get accepted right away to drop because if people fail 1105, they'll move down the ranking list, meaning that some people might not get their acceptance until after Dec 1, when the second session ends.

You guys are right. This is all so confusing. I hope they don't wait until 8/12 to send out the emails.

Either way, I have high hopes for all of us!

The waiting game is hard, makes you overthink the process and add on to the confusing method that's in place. At least that has been me since May. Still holding out hope that today we will get news but expecting it tomorrow or Friday at five p.m.

What are everyone’s points? Does anyone know what’s competitive?
