Good morning allnurses.com viewers,
I just submitted my application to ACC for Spring 2009 and I am VERYYYY nervous. This program is so intimidating knowing it's past concerning waitlists and (though very doubtful) I wish to be accepted on the first attempt.
I am just wondering if anyone here in Austin has gone to the information sessions, talked to the chairman (woman), or has any information on what the waitlist is supposed to look like for Spring 2009.
Also, what ranking points is usually the cut-off for the waitlist? I have searched forums and some people have 45-50 ranking points (which is amazing and I congratulate you guys), but how many ranking points is it usually before they deny your admittance to the program?
Thank you for reading my post and I hope to hear from someone soon.
Sincerely,
FilipinOOO
p.s. this is my first post so go easy on me:saint:
I'm taking Speech 1311 and Psyc 2314 during the last 8 week term of the spring semester and then planning on the 11 week anatomy class this summer, with English composition 1301 the first 5.5 weeks, and Intro to the Theater, Drama 1310 the second 5.5 weeks. The nursing dept recommends the sequence anatomy, microbiology, and then physiology and pharmacology in the same semester if necessary.
With all the discussion of the wait list and more and more professors teaching how do you explain that every nursing pre-requisite class is completely full and every nursing class is completely full this 2009 spring semester? (except for Fredericksburg 90 miles from Austin)
I'm concerned about even getting into an anatomy class this summer with only 9 credits allowing me to register only one day early.
The Anatomy refresher class taught by Assoc Prof ***** ****** was excellent.
I took the weekend Rio Grand Physiology refresher class taught by Major **** **** was intense--don't blink or you will miss a chapter or two. Also don't "Text" under the table/ He'll revert to his military ways and confiscate the illegal goods until the end of the class. He'll spend about 2 minutes looking at the class roster, asking and memorizing some 30+ names, and then after a lecture will ask you by first name a question from the lecture to see if you have been paying attention. After a lecture on the metric system he asked one woman, who had been texting, how much she'd estimate her weight was in the metric system. Answer "20 liters". He reamed her out military style, confiscated her illicit electronics, went over weight and mass again and she got the question right the second time it was asked at the end of the class. She'll never miss a question on metrics in the NCLEX.

I am in the exact same boat! I only need the last four pre-req's but I have no credits at ACC since I just moved here. I am so concered.
Yes I've taken the pre-requisite test you must pass in order to enroll in Human Anatomy.
The biology dept does offer a class to help you prep for the pre-requisite anatomy test. I believe it was in the continuing education department listings and cost about $40--well worth it. I'd check with an advisor to see about the prep class.
I'm hoping to get into the CYP anatomy 11 wk classes this summer. Rio Grande campus would be my last choice because of all the parking problems there.

I am in the Pharmacology class right now at Eastview with ***** *****. I really recommend taking it with her. She is an RN and teaches you what nurses need to know about meds. Just took our first lecture test this past wednesday and I got a 96. It was 100 questions on a scantron. Pretty easy, and she give you a good review to go by. If you do take it with her, DONT buy the textbook, you wont need it at all. The hardest part for me right now is the dosage calculations. I am taking my first dose exam tomorrow at Cypress. Ayyyy!
You have to take Anatomy First. Then Microbiology, Then Physiology, Then Pharmacology
***** ********, ACC nursing advisor, and the ACC biology dept recommend the above sequence and told me students should only consider taking Physiology and Pharmacology the same semester.
I'm planning on 11 weeks of Anatomy this summer with an early 6 week class in English Composition and a late 6 week class in Drama. I can drop the two "basket weaving" classes if they start to impact Anatomy.
I want to be a nurse so much and all these pre-requisites seem to take so long.
I'm doing "nursing care" for my Siamese cat, Leilani,:heartbeat who has a cold, sneezes, and has and runny eyes. Will that count as a clinical or get me into nurses training any sooner?

Yes, you do take it after certain levels in the program, it is over the material covered in that level. IMO you can't really study for the HESI. The math is pretty basic and you can use a calculator. A&P is so random though...I bought an A&P review book for about $10 to review, not too sure that I needed it, but I did do well. The reading section is all about comprehension. Just don't stress and take your time when taking the test. It's not that bad. The hardest thing for me was reading on the computer because I am a hardcopy kinda gal, but I still did well by taking it slow. Best of luck:)
