The St. David's network and Seton network are both giving their nurses a 6% pay increase effective sometime in October. The pay rate at Seton for a new nurse with no experience was $19.28/hr with $2.50-3 /hr differential for evenings and roughly $5 for nights and weekends.
Hope this helps! Even if the pay isn't the best - Austin is a GREAT place to live. Best of luck to you.

News to me. But yay if you're right :)
The pay is pretty poor, considering our cost of living is higher than most surrounding areas. I took a 1/3 pay cut moving from CA but my living expenses didn't nearly decrease by that amount
Exactly why I decided against moving to Austin. I lived there before and loved it, but I found out they're starting new grads out at around $20/hr., and that's the same as here in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The cost of living is considerably higher in Austin, too! I was pretty bummed out about that.
I live in New Mexico and graduate in December and was considering Austin. Do you know if any of the hospitals offer new grad OR postions? If I understand the area correctly they have several nursing school located near by which means they may have so many "new nurses" that finding a position could be tough.
Any information regarding the hospitals and working conditions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
The pay in Austin sucks. New grads are starting off at $18 some odd/hr, and I hear experienced nurses don't make too much, either.

The only one I know of is through the St. David's S.N.A.P. program, which offers a perioperative program, I believe. I think it's something like a year of mentoring/training or whatnot, followed by a two year work commitment. It should be on their website under "Careers."
WOW! Good to hear this. I was actually considering moving to Austin after graduation. With their starting pay rates and their increase in living expenses, I made the choice not too. Although I know Austin is a great place to live, it seems that might be the only thing they have to offer new grads, similarly Colorado hospitals as well. Sad.

I work in an ICU in Dallas but I am thinking of moving to Austin. Does anyone know what kind of pay rate I could get with one year of experience?
Thank you
