Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?

You don't have to pay back the hospital for the scholarship money they paid for you. You sign an agreement/ contract that you will work for them for about 2 years. When you are working with them, you get paid just like any nurse. However, if you don't wish to work for them, you will have to make arrangements to pay back the money they paid for your tuition/ fees. A scholarship can be good because at least you'll have a job secured when you leave school. The hospital scholarship, as well as the others on BC site, government loans (since they have the lowest interest rates) and the emergency funding from BC are all options you can consider. Don't give up.

Thank you for clearing that up, again I am just a bad listener:facepalm:.

It's $1200 half for fall and the other half for the winter. I just called and they told me that's all I am qualified for. I will have to pay out of pocket for next summer.[/quote']

Is that only for pell? Did you apply for FA Loans as well?

Nevermind. I posted that before reading the other posts... If I were you I would apply for the loans. I am. Unfortunately, I am not eligible for pell. :-(

Just came to Central to pick up my orientation packet for Thursday, July 17th. I saw a nursing student walking and decided to ask some questions. I asked her bout the uniform policy since she was in polos and black jeans. She said scrubs are only needed for labs. For theory you can wear polos with jeans. She also told me its very tough. Exams are usually 12-15 chapters and c linicals is where many people fail. The clinical professors are tough and you need to know your stuff well. She saw my kids and told me are they yours....she then chuckled and said you better be ready to have no time for them.

She told me the first couple weeks I will be doubting my decision to do nursing here but good luck. I smiled and was cordial but its people like that that really scares us about this program.

I am sure that this nursing program will probably be the hardest thing we have ever done... but others have done it and we can do it too... you just have to want it bad enough and dedicate the time needed.

As far as the exams being up to 15 chapters... there was a post in this thread where someone posted the following link: Professor Bourie's Blog

The exams on there all show about 5-10 chapters per exam.

Lol, I remember denying the loan when I was filling out my financial aids. No wonder why it doesn't show up with my awards. This may explains why Pell gives me so little? Anyhow, things are falling into place. Looking at my awards, I see a $2000 BC Scholarship being award to me in addition to my Pell. I'll have to pay just for books up until the Winter. I'll be fine if I can get through the first semester. I believe that's the semester with the most credits and expanse. As far as the summer, I'll use my tax to pay my classes.

Thanks guys for all of the advice.

No they won't award you more pell just because you apply for loans.

Wow! you are so lucky that you got awarded the BC scholarship!! I need that, haha!!! I am not pell eligible because I already have a previous degree. It stinks because I really need it to help out with all of the school expenses not to mention I wont be working during the program. I am going to try to talk to Nichole to see what other options they may have.

I finally finished my Health Care Core Course (HCP0001) yesterday and turned it in to Nichole.... I noticed today that my application status went from "pending documentation" to "Current Status: Application In Review" Woo Hoo! Fingers crossed that they still have an open seat for me!

according to one professors blog, the most chapters ive seen per test is between 5 and 8 for Central. But whatev's if it's more, and others can do it so can we, not a problem.

Nursejasckie trust me if you are going to central they are way longer then that. For instance on the second test is critical thinking and the nursing process and you will think ok I only have to read the critically thinking process but no its the whole section which includes in your book chapters: critical thinking, assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. So you look at the syllabus and think ok that is only one chapter but its all of those chapters. if anyone has any questions about central campus I can answer all of them. I started in May so I am fresh out of process 1. I am not trying by any means to overwhelm you guys just trying to help you guys be more prepared and to not be shocked.

When did you apply for your scholarship?

YAyyyyy. Clapping!

Does anyone know how the summer semester works as far as FA is concerned? Do we get an additional disbursement for summer or does it have to come out of our second disbursement for year #1?

If you don't mind me asking... what have your grades been like for semester 1?
