:angryfire I felt sick when I viewed this video: Injustice Exposed: Secret Code

on veterans. I do not have any veterans in my immediate family

but if you do, or you know one, or you professionally care for one,

please get this information to them for viewing. Although a long

video, it is critical that it be seen. Than you for passing it on!

I can't even get the words out right now, I'm sooo infuriated. Thank you for posting this and bringing it to our attentions.

I live in IL and would like to know the true source of this video. I am also a USN vet.

As a recent veteran, I do not have any of those numbers on my DD214, in fact it looks different from the older ones featured in the programs.

Still serving, huah ANG!

I got out my husbands DD214 from the '90s. There are codes on it. I have found the definition for one of the codes and it is not derogatory, however I have been unable to find a definition for the the other code number that is on it. After reviewing the definition of the list of codes that was available- I am ashamed of my government yet again. My family and my husband's family has a history of voluntary military service. It makes a joke of what they did for their country.

To TraumaRUS,

I frequent a favorite web site of a very respectable

Christian man who makes every effort to provide news that the main stream media does not always address. I scroll down his front page daily and this is where I found the information. However, I am unable to tell you the true source of the video. Perhaps you may ascertain it by e-mail to ask him. The site is: stevequayle.com

Hope this helps.

I'll admit to not watching the entire 1 hour, 30 minute video but I didn't see anything in the first 15 minutes that caused any heartburn.

Yeah, I see the codes and yes, some of them are for negative items. What's the problem?

My DD214 from 1983 says "MBK" which means I completed my term-of-duty.

Why the outrage?

I was unable to download the video but did a search about these "secret" codes. I found a listing with the definitions of some codes. There are codes that are labels such as: behavior disorder-bedwetter, apathetic, obese, minority, homosexual, aggressive reaction, defective attitude, sexual deviant, inadequate personality - and the list goes on.

From what I found, there are organizations who have discriminated against veterans when the veterans produced their DD214 as proof of service. At one time, the definitions of these codes was available from DOD to the general public. They no longer give out the definitions to just anybody, but I am sure that there are plenty of copies floating around. IMO these labels are derogatory and slanderous. Obviously the DOD found there was a problem also - as they now have an address a veteran can write to and request an amended DD214 which no longer has the codes on them.

After speaking with persons involved in veteran advocacy groups, many in those circles have been aware of these codes for some time - most involving those "hated" Vietnam Vets. Although no one I have spoken with has actually had one of these derogatory codes on their paperwork, obviously someone has or new paperwork would not be issued without those codes and the definitions would not have been removed from web sites per the DOD's instructions. Most of the persons I believe that the derogatory codes affect, are persons with admin discharges. People who don't "fit in". All of my family were given honorable discharges but I know that there are many people given Admin discharges that did not do anything dishonorable - they just weren't what the military was looking for. That does not mean that they should be branded like this. The label "pregnancy" is also on the list. And considering that many years ago if a woman in the military were to become pregnant, she was discharged for it - even though military women back then were not allowed in combat roles.

Perhaps this was not common knowledge to most as many older vets do not have their original DD214s and the new ones are missing the codes. I find it offensive and reprehensible to have marked these documents with labels - many of which are irrelevant. What the military may label a person does not mean that the person is unfit to perform a different job or to receive veteran preference. I can understand someone with a "clean" DD214 not being outraged - after all it doesn't affect them. But as I am someone who believes in fairness and generally roots for the underdog - we might as well be going back to the days of lynch mobs and separate bathrooms! And oh yeah - back in those days real men weren't nurses either - that was a woman's job!

Thanks for your reply. I see your point. I suppose that information should be kept confidential and the form simply contain your discharge type since the details of your discharge are not relevant once it's been granted.

"we might as well be going back to the days of lynch mobs and separate bathrooms!" is a bit of an extreme response, though, don't you think?

When people have been discriminated against because of being black or homosexual, having those codes on a 214 takes this country back to those days of intolerance and hatred. Comment was not directed at you or anyone but at my anger and frustration that the country that was supposed to be founded on freedom repeatedly shows how ugly it truly can be.
