Tomorrow I am going in to apply for the wait list for the nursing program! (That sounds like so much more work than it needs to be )
I know to even get on the wait list (at least at my school) you need to have completed several classes (4 I believe) so I have at least 3 semesters before I can even get on the wait list! Possibly more...thanks to my lack of science in college! (I have to take Bio 106, Bio 201 and Bio 202 before I can get wait listed)
So now I have to find filler classes for 3 semesters to get those requirements out of the way... and then at least another semester or so of filler classes before I get in the program!! Kind of discouraging!
Heck, I could probably earn a whole nother degree while attempting to get in the nursing program! But I just have to keep telling myself that it'll be worth it in the long run I suppose!

Like you, I was worried I'd never start my nursing classes. After 3 years of going to school full time, and transferring from a university to a community college, I finished all my prereqs this semester, have a great gpa, and my community college waitlisted me because I'm not an in-county resident :angryfire so I applied to a hospital based program co-op with another community college in April. I was accepted 2 weeks after I applied and I start this fall. Ironically, my college then actually reached my name on the waitlist and accepted me in the beginning of this month, but I turned it down because I want to do the other program as I heard from two RNs that the hospital based program is much better. :rotfl: I refused to sit around and wait to be accepted and it paid off. Would it be possible for you to transfer to another program in your area without a wait list and where you wouldnt have to take those bio classes before being accepted? Might be something worth looking into to save yourself from wasting all that time and money.
I agree, waitlists can drive you NUTS! Hang in there! One day I am going to teach, maybe help make some of these waitlists a bit shorter!!
I'm so glad to see that you want to teach - yeay - thank you! It's good to know that people are still interested in teaching! I noticed that there are currently three nurse's positions open at the CC that I want to attend - yikes! The salaries were all posted in the mid 30k range which is high wages for this area (especially considering that a CNA gets $6.70/hr. out here and one RN I know makes approx. $17/hr.) and our cost of living is extremely low. People in this area are generally thrilled to death if they can find a job paying $7.00 - $8.00/hr, so it's good to know that nursing instructors are paid a decent amount. :)
In '91, because my program felt there should be more men in nursing, I got to cut in front of a 2 yr waiting list.
Applied in Feb, accepted for the fall 2 weeks later.
And I got to take the last paper boards so no worries about the CAT test.
But, I answered call buttons uphill both ways in the snow back in those days.
~faith,
Timothy.
I'm waiting too.. I should have started in August but my school decided that they were going to change the requirements. Used to be as long as you were enrolled in the pre req's you could apply, just had to finish before NS started. Now the pre req's have to be done before you can even apply. So I have to wait until Spring. It's not that long I know, but I'm already 31 and I plan to pursue my BSN and CNM and I'd like to be done before I'm 40!
Anyway what I figured out was that there are a whole bunch of other classes I have to take to be admitted to the university where I am going to do my BSN. So that's what I'm doing this semester! Taking a foreign language (one I can use instead of the 6 years of German I already have), statistics class, a poly sci class and sociology class. If you're planning on a BSN at any point, you might as well get them out of the way. My CC has a handy little list of all the GE classes you need for transfer. I feel better knowing that the semster won't be wasted sitting around waiting for my NS acceptance letter.

Well, I guess I will be the old geezer - I will probably be around (or really close to) 30 when I graduate.
Oh well - better late than never, right?
