Tomorrow I am going in to apply for the wait list for the nursing program! (That sounds like so much more work than it needs to be )
I know to even get on the wait list (at least at my school) you need to have completed several classes (4 I believe) so I have at least 3 semesters before I can even get on the wait list! Possibly more...thanks to my lack of science in college! (I have to take Bio 106, Bio 201 and Bio 202 before I can get wait listed)
So now I have to find filler classes for 3 semesters to get those requirements out of the way... and then at least another semester or so of filler classes before I get in the program!! Kind of discouraging!
Heck, I could probably earn a whole nother degree while attempting to get in the nursing program! But I just have to keep telling myself that it'll be worth it in the long run I suppose!

I know nursing school wait-lists can drive people nuts...just hang in there. Even though you just need a few science courses to get on the wait-list, I think it would be a good idea to get a few of the other classes (like english and psych.) out of the way too (if you haven't got them done already) so your load will be lighter while you take the actual nursing classes. You do sound like you've got a good attituded...yes, it will be worth it in the end.
-good luck!
:)
I already have the other pre-req's out of the way! (I am currently a Junior majoring in Computer Science...) It's just the Bio classes and one psych class...which I will be taking over the next 3 semesters... unfortunatly each class I need is a pre-req for another that I need
All well, an excuse to take some of the more fun classes (like web design) that I've been wanting to take!

It will be worth the wait. :)
At the school Im going to I have to be admitted into the lower division of the nursing program, where I stay until my junior year, then hopefully (fingers crossed) I'll be admitted into the upper division. To be admitted to the upper division I have to take classes like College Writing, Psychology, Sociology, Chemistry, Oral Communication. Oral Communiction class terrifies me, LOL. I just wish I would have started college when I graduated from high school, so I would have a BSN in nursing at 20 instead of 23. But Im still so exicted.
LoL! I'm 22 and just starting it all, so I totally understand that feeling!

I understand. I'm starting in August with the english, bio, psych, etc.. It's going to take me 4 years from start to finish. I know it will be all worth it though. I am thinking of taking a photography class and digital image editing. I figure if I'm already there I might as well take a few extra classes that intrest me. Atleast all of my classes will be finished by the time I enter the nursing program, so I'll only have the actual nursing courses to worry about.

I kick myself regularly for not going straight to the RN program out of high school. Instead I am 25 waitlisted for the LPN program, because I can't afford to go directly to the RN program. Hang in there though, it is worth it.

Hang in there buddy. I know what you are going through, I know it is a frustrating situation, time will go by fast. I am sure it will all pay off at the end.
Good luck to you,

I do believe we are all with you. I am 26 and in the same boat. I have taken a year's worth of courses towards human services work, but unfortunately, none of them were sciences. I have the basic English & Math requirements out of the way, but now I must take A&P I & II, Human Growth & Development & possibly Microbiology/Patho before I can even apply to the nursing program. It is very frustrating, especially considering that once I get all of those done, I will have probably a minimum of a year's wait to get into the nursing program. (Could be working on my 3rd yr. of my Bachelor's degree - but I am willing to wait to do something I truly want.) We know just how you feel - it is very frustrating, but also very exciting!
I plan on just taking a couple classes at a time (since it will also take me 2-3 semesters because of prereqs as well) so that I can really concentrate on those classes and maintain a higher GPA (although not required at my school - but I still want it). I think that while I'm on the wait-list, I will try taking some non-required courses such as Med. Term. & Chem. classes so that if I decide to pursue a bachelor's later (which I am anticipating because I believe I want to be a NP, but I suppose I won't know for sure until I'm in the trenches) I will already have some of those out of the way. Hang in there - we will all make it and one of these days, we'll be able to call ourselves that sought-after, wonderful word . . . RN (and be darned good at it too)! At least know that you're not in that boat alone.
Thank you all for sharing your stories! It's so nice to know that there are others in this boat!!
I'm sure the time will go quickly! After talking to Kenike last nighit on MSN, I realized that I can work as a CNA while I get my pre-req's done and then have a little experiance in the field before starting nursing school! So I'm sure the time will fly

I'm in the same boat.. I am going on the wait list at the end of July as soon as I finish my chemistry class. I am hoping to start in the fall of 2006 this winter would be the soonest that I could start. Sometimes I feel like I'm never going to start.. other days I'm glad that I have a little while yet.. there never seems to be a happy medium. I to wish that I could have started right after high school, but sometimes life gets in the way! I will be 25 when I graduate so I still have a lot of life left to go!
It's nice to know that I'm not the only one in the same boat!
I will probably be 25 upon graduation too... so that's comforting to know that I'm not alone :)
And this site is wonderful and full of great information! I'm so glad I found it!
