It was very vague but I think the next couple of weeks hopefully LOL

Hi all- I applied just last week and haven't heard anything. I was wondering if anyone knew if we were accepted when we would start/how long orientation is etc I searched all over online and couldn't find any details.

Hi! I originally got in contact with an HR recruiter a couple of months ago (before COVID) and she told me the process was recruiters review resumes/applications and contact those who meet minimum criteria. She informed me recruiters will call to get an idea of your preferences (unit and hospitals) and try their best to get you an interview in your number 1 choice- although not always doable.

I got a call 2 weeks ago and that's pretty much exactly what happened! She asked me what units/hospitals I would like to be considered for. Unfortunately, the conversation was pretty brief and there was not a lot of information provided due to everything being up in the air right now. She told me "IF" and when interviews happen they will not occur for a month or two. Also, she did not give me a definitive timeline for the next steps. She also alluded to the program being on hold until they figure out the COVID situation.

As for program information, if you are offered a job, I have a friend who went through the program 2 years ago and she told me for the first year you are considered "per diem" and paid per diem rates. However, you still work full-time hours and you work as an RN. Each unit orientation time frame differs from specialty to specialty. After 1 year your probationary period is up and that is when you are hired as full time and become eligible for benefits/ move to full-time hour rates. Also, you have to commit to a 2-year contract however, you only have to commit 1 year to the unit you are originally hired to. After a year you can choose to move units if you would like. Also, I am not sure if this is for every unit but my friend told me you orient on days and after your orientation period you automatically have to work nights.

The recruiter told me she hopes to have more information in the coming weeks and will continue to keep contacted applications updated. Super sad because I know last year people were already hired to the residency around this time ? I think we just have to play the waiting game until they figure out logistics with how to move forward with the program! Good luck, I am sure you will get a call soon!! ?

WOW! thank you SO MUCH for all the detailed information. That was so nice of you to type all of it out to help me understand a little more about the program. I really appreciate it I feel kind of behind because I originally was only looking in Hoboken/Jersey City but expanded my search and now am seriously hoping I can get this residency because it sounds so great! Still no call today but I'm trying to keep calm I'm sure there's lots of applicants to get through! Thank you again I'll update if I hear any info from my end! Good luck to you too?

Also- what floor was your friend on? I'm curious if the residency mostly offers med/surg type jobs or if specialities are available?

Hi, I think it's a mix! When the recruiter called, she asked what I would be interested in. I asked her what was available and she said anything. They're still working out how many new grads they're taking and where, but you could pretty much go for anything. I did send an email follow-up this week though and she said they're still prioritizing needs for the pandemic so sounds like the program may have been put on hold again or things will be progressing very slowly.

@nursejane3 My friend works on a Med surg floor but she was also a nursing assistant there before transitioning as an RN! Also, when the recruiter called me I was able to put down NICU, PICU, and l&d. She did tell me that specialities like those are looking for someone with at least 1 year of acute care experience as a pct or extern. She also said they are super competitive and most of the time those spots are given to internal nursing assistants on those floors.

Also, not sure if anyone else received this update but my friend who also applied told me the recruiter called her saying they will not be interviewing any applicants until they are licensed. With that being said I decided to accept an offer elsewhere. Again not sure if that applies to everyone but that’s what she told me! Good luck to everyone ?

CONGRATS on a job!! That is so exciting. It's so discouraging to have all these delays/unknowns with the residency but hopefully this will work out for us all. Good luck!!

Hey! I just got that too. I also called today to follow up and they said they are extending offers to all their internal applicants right now, and whatever positions are left they will go through external applications and offer the leftover positions to them. She said we'll hear in the next two weeks hopefully. CONGRATS on accepting a job!
