Hi everyone, I'm an RPN from ON, and I would like to know if it is worth it to do the LPN to RN program in Athabasca or to do it in Ryerson University. I would also like to know if after getting the Athabasca RN degree I will easily find job in ON?
Thanks Fiona for your reply. obviously, I am going to do my own research. Asking questions from the site doesn't mean that i would make decision based on it. It's sometimes better to get ideas from experienced members. That is why we ask lots of question about Athabasca from experienced members, it doesn't mean that we can't get information form the university. Thanks again for your concern and for replying.
Well, it certainly seems from a review of your posts that you AREN'T doing any research other than asking members here your questions. The impression I'm getting is that you're essentially asking a classmate to do your homework. You're Internet savvy enough to have found allnurses.com so you should have the skills to do a Google search for much of the information you've asked for. How do you suppose many of the responses you're getting to your inquiries are coming from? Someone else's time spent on doing the research for you...
Based on just the income information you've provided, your incomealone, without including your husband's, is much more than the maximum allowed in Alberta for ANY assistance. They are also going to look at the value of any investments (RRSPs, TFSAs and so on) as well as the gross resale value of any vehicles your family owns. There's an online calulator for government loans that is found here: CanLearn Interactive - CanLearn.ca I recommend you got there and plug in some numbers to see for yourself.

Thanks janfrn for replying. If you think i am asking my classmates to do my homework for me, then you don't have to reply to my questions. I posted this question because i needed information like anyone else. Did'nt delegate it to any particular person. I also answer quetions from others, I do not ask them to go and do research, i might suggest but do not do it in a provocative manner like you just did. What is the forum all about? why are we here? Thanks anyway for giving the online calculator site. I was there long ago, but just wanted to get all the information i might need. Like i said before, if my questions are so annoying to you, then please don't reply. Thanks for your understanding.

Wow, ever tried reading the Athabascau Calender? It gives you most of the answers.
Student loans are a crapshoot. You just have to apply, cross ur fingers, cross ur toes and pray.
Please look to the resources posters have provided you.And....just a thought, but do you really want to be posting very personal (ie your family's income) on the internet?
Why not, is it annoying anyone. Do you know me personally? I have to give the accurate information to get the information i want. If my personal income bothers you, please by pass my question. Thanks.
Hi,
I am an RPN in Ontario and I am considering taking this program. I was just wondering about the clinical placements. I know that I have to go to Alberta for the first 3 placements, but for how long will I have to be there. Are the placements done over the course of a whole semester (14 weeks), or can I get the hours done as quickly as I want (ex. 1 month)???

You really should contact Athabasca directly for that kind of information.
I just signed up as an unclassified student for a stats class from Athabasca University. For people who've taken the Post LPN to RN program through them, I was wondering how you scheduled your clinicals? I know there are some lasting a few weeks at a time, but Did u have to ask your employer for time off to do so? I'm a fairly new grad so i'm thinking that starting at a new job and then asking for time off for clinical could be touchy. Any advice would help... thanks!

You won't be admitted to the programme until you have the required number of practice hours. For some reason, I think it's around 1700, so one year full time work. You won't be doing clinicals for a while.
