Has anyone taken ASU's NET Essay & been accepted? I recently applied and was declined, mostly because of my essay. I got a score of .66 on it. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what the graders are looking for. I always thought writing was my strong point, but they must be looking for something inparticular.
I re-take my NET for reapplication the begining of January, any input would be greatly appriciated.
Thank you!

Hey!! AprilKimberly,
I am wrapping up my Senior 1 semester at ASU in the RN program.
As for the NET, I think I scored in the 80's on it. I remember I wrote out an outline of the main points prior to writing the essay. In my intro paragraph I listed 3 or 4 things that I wanted to talk about and then opened up each paragraph with them. I transitioned to the next paragraph from the following i.e.
I would like to discuss various methods of inducing labor such as pharmacologic, mechanical, and other (can't think of anything else!). Pharmacologic will now be discussed.
Pharmacologic measure include the use of......you get the idea...
I know that it seems forever making an outline, but it will save youtime in the long run.
I Intro Para
II Point/Subject 1
III Subject II
IV Subject III
V Conclusion, restate main points, summarize...etc.
Also, make sure it is legible...
I hope this helps.

If you guys do a search on allnurses you may come up with some good suggestions about writing your essay. There was a similar question posed a few years ago and someone went into detail about how to score well on the essay. Hopefully you can still access it.

Focus on correct grammar and idea organization more than anything. I remember getting so caught up in writing an elaborate essay that I ran out of time. I would ask your peers what questions they got and practice writing out answers to those questions. This will really help when it comes to the real thing. My question was: Why do you want to become a nurse and what do you think you can contribute to the nursing profession? At least I think that's what it was. Ultimately, it's your grades that matter most. Hopefully ASU gets rid of the essay as part of the admission score, it's way too subjective IMO. Anyway, good luck!!

I met with an ASU advisor in May and she told me they no longer have an essay portion. She said they did away with it, so now it is only a six point scale for getting in to the program which consists of your NET scores and selected GPA.
That is definately a good thing. I just got into their program and start next month. If you have any questions on the application process or NET test, send me a message.
