ASU Post-Baccalaureate BSN 2017 - Welcome

Published

Hey everyone,

I am a current post-bacc student at ASU. I wanted to start a thread for all of you who are applying for the 2017 class. Last year we had amazing support from the 2015 class, so we wanted to carry on that tradition and provide you all with the same support system. Feel free to use this thread to ask questions and seek advice. Many of my classmates will be on here answering your questions as well!

Good luck to you all!

Thanks lnkeeto!

I'll answer a couple more from my experience.

You are correct, Tuition was either 10,XXX or 11,XXX for the 3 semesters. Tuition goes up every Fall, so my exact numbers probably wouldn't be the same for you guys, but it was similar to the previous year.

I got a scholarship in the Fall semester, which was super helpful. But like lnkeeto mentioned the ones for the whole school were really competitive, and the one I got was specifically for our class and only offered in the Fall.

And bsnhopeful33- We had nothing going on during that time. We had a couple things that needed to be completed like a drug test and a signature from a provider stating that you could perform the tasks of a nurse. I am pretty sure you will be find to leave during that time. Last year I was out of town for about the same period.

What helped you get your scholarship and if you don't mind me asking, how much was it for?

Hi Tbirdrn66,

Many students in our cohort are married with children. I personally do not have children but I am married. I think it all depends on how you prioritize. Balance is key! If you stay on top of assignments, there is certainly room for family time.

Several of us carpooled and split the cost to park in the east garage. We paid approximately $120 in the spring and again in the fall. I would highly suggest carpooling if you are in the same clinical rotation group. Our class was often split into morning and afternoon groups, which may make it difficult to share the parking pass. I hope this helps!

Tbirdrn66 - I personally do not have children but there are definitely people within our program who have children. I think that they obviously struggled a little more with free time than I did. However, I think all of us struggled with finding that happy medium between school life and our personal life. The spring had a little more flexibility with study time since it is longer. However, the summer and the first half of fall I found myself studying every weekend. The amount of studying you do will definitely depend on how you learn. I personally have to read and repeat lectures to study and so it takes me a weekend to study for a test. With that being said, I know students who did not study that way and were fine.

I live in the West Valley and I bought a parking pass. The first two semesters I drove to ASU West and took the bus in. The last semester I just drove downtown. Once you figure out where to go, the commute isn't that bad. I split my parking pass with two other people so I am not 100% sure what it comes out to. I STRONGLY suggest carpooling. It obviously saves on time and gas but you can also study or review material during the commute.

Hi guys,

The current class has created a secret Facebook group for you guys to ask questions and arrange a couple of meet and greets with the current class. Since it is secret, I think you guys will need to add one of the current students in the group to be put in the group. We will send those of you who have posted one of our names so that you can be added into the group. Could you please share this name with others that you know who have been accepted?

The Facebook page that was created last year was so helpful and really contributed to our success throughout the year. Some people made facebooks specifically to be a part of this group and all members of our class participated. We will continue to utilize this group beyond graduation as we network and stay in contact with each other.

Also, if anyone is interested in being an admin of this group, please let one of us know!

Hi guys,

I was also accepted into ASU's post-bac program and I'm so excited to meet all of you!

I've recently come across this thread and have found it really helpful. So I was just wondering if someone could add me to the Facebook group? Thanks in advance!

I sent out my name to add, and it should be in a lot of your guys' private messages on here! So add me and share with your other classmates!

Can you message me? Thank you!
