Hey everyone,

I am a current post-bacc student at ASU. I wanted to start a thread for all of you who are applying for the 2017 class. Last year we had amazing support from the 2015 class, so we wanted to carry on that tradition and provide you all with the same support system. Feel free to use this thread to ask questions and seek advice. Many of my classmates will be on here answering your questions as well!

Good luck to you all!

Miss cassie how did you find the books so cheap? Also how did you avoid paying for the online programs? I usually would do the same but the one online package is $500 separately

Hi,

I realize this thread is a little old so I may not get a response, but I just stumbled across it. I am considering applying for the 2018 cycle. I was wondering how you calculate the advancement score. I know it's based on your GPA and TEAS score but i'm not sure how you calculate that to get the score. Just trying to figure out how good my odds are. Thanks!

Hey Camel1881, I'm in the current class of 2017. I believe you take your GPA (of only 8 of the ten pre-requisite classes) and divide by 4. If you have a 4.0, then your GPA score is 1. Your TEAS is simply your %. If you got a 90%, then it's .9. Total would be 1.9. Usually this program has a high # applicants, but for some crazy reason, we did not. The median advancing score in the past was somewhere around 1.86 or so. I can't even tell you what this years # was since pretty much all the applicants got in if they were qualified. 48 applicants for 48 spots (this was never officially confirmed). There are only 44 of us. We just completed our 6th week! It's stressful, but I'm so glad I decided to do this program vs the traditional program. Only 41 weeks to go. :) Good luck!

Thank you so much Celester321! Too bad I missed applying for this year's program ;)

Oh! one more thing. I had considered another program that requires you to take the HESI exam. I am not applying to that one anymore, but I was wondering if you think the free HESI exams online would be good practice for the TEAS? Or are the questions different and it would throw me off?

Thanks again and good luck with the rest of your 41 weeks! Hope it goes amazing! :)

I would get the TEAS prep booklet and practice tests from the ATI website. Total is about 140ish but it's worth it. It's set up pretty much how the real test is set up. I understand that HESI is easier and not as evil....er...hard as the TEAS. I knew several people who didn't really study for HESI and did well. I studied a lot for the TEAS and got 90.7%. Many other classmates did better. Average was probably high 80's. Thanks for the good luck. We have a test tomorrow in Theory. Ugh.

Ok great! Thanks! I will definitely get those and maybe do the HESI ones as a little extra practice. Might as well if they are free ;)

Hope you do well on your test!

Hi I am applying for the 2018 cycle as well. The advancement score is calculated as 4=1 + the percentage of your TEAS. So assuming you have a 4.0gpa and 90% TEAS, then its 1+0.9 = 1.9. Are you done with your pre reqs? I have 3 more left.

Is there a group on here for class of 2018? If so can someone point me in the right direction. Class of 2017, how is it going?

You guys are earlier birds! I didn't find this feed until summer of last year. The 2016 class started this feed for our 2017 class and it was very helpful. Feel free to ask questions here because several of us still follow it. The 2017 class is marching on. We just did our first hospital clinicals (already completed long-term care) and it was amazing and so much fun! We have a test on Monday in Theory, so I'll answer later "how it is going"...because right now I have angst! Ha! Also, your advancement score calculation is correct. That darn TEAS counts for half your score even though it is only 2-ish hours of your life vs the many, many hours you have already spend slaving over pre-reqs! Do well on both and you shouldn't have to worry....no promises though. :) Good luck!

Hi Celester321! Thank you for your prompt response. What time of the year did you apply for the community health program? April or May?

I think it was more like June, but I don't actually remember. Apply as early as you can. The acceptance into the Community Health Program is super fast (less than 4 weeks) but it's the whole BSN acceptance part that will try your patience.

Hi guys, I am working on application for Spring 2018, I am still deciding which TEAS test prep booklet I should get. Any suggestion? I went ATI website, but it was too much for me to cover :(
