ASU Post-Bacc Nursing Program 2013

U.S.A. Arizona

Hello out there!

Is anyone else applying for and /or waiting to see if they are accepted to ASU's Post-Bacc nursing program starting in Jan. of 2013? Anyone from the ASU post-bacc nursing class of 2012 is more than welcome to write and let me know how it is going for them as well! :)

My application is in and I wanted to see if anyone else is out there and want to discuss your GPA, TEAS V scores, anxieties, and the program in general.

Thanks!

Hi everyone! I am currently taking the pre-reqs for the post bacc nursing program to apply in fall! Have you taken the TEAS exam yet? I haven't met anyone who is applying for this program and would LOVE to talk with someone about it! Anyone else applying for Dec 14'?

It's nice to see another 2014 post-bacc hopeful!

I am getting ready to apply this fall. I can't believe that the deadline is now September 1! It's coming up fast! I am planning to take the TEAS in June or July, since you can only take it once anyways. After this semester, I just have to finish patho. :D.

How are your prereqs going? Are you taking them at ASU or through the community colleges?

Thank you so much for your response SapphireSky! It is really nice to connect with others applying. I am currently finishing up my bachelors at ASU in biology (graduate in May) so I am taking prereqs now at ASU but will be taking more this summer at community college. I will have to take Patho in fall but everything else will be completed. I am meeting with nursing advisor again next week because as I move along I keep having more questions! Do you know anything about the meeting in May? Does anyone who is applying in Fall go to this? How are you studying for TEAS? I am very nervous and excited!

It is nice to connect with someone who is applying, too. Congrats on your upcoming graduation!

I graduated from ASU in 2009 with a degree in psychology. I started taking taking classes again part-time last February. I only had four prereqs done when I graduated, so it's been fun! :D. I took chemistry through Rio Salado and the rest through ASU. I will be taking patho this summer (hopefully through Estrella Mountain). I'm not sure about the placement workshops in May. That's one of the things I will definitely ask about when I meet with an advisor. My appointment is at the end of the month.

As for the TEAS, it's what I'm the most nervous about! I just bought the ATI book and I've been slowly going through it. I am definitely going to buy the ATI practice tests. Going to hit TEAS studying hard over the summer.

I am currently enrolled in the Post-Bacc program. I would strongly recommend that you ask to speak with -------------- in the advisement office. When you call in to schedule your appointment, they will fit you in with the first available advisor. She is the one who is dedicated to the program, so you should get accurate info the first time around. The others in the office don't know all the answers, so save yourself some frustration.

As far as grades, they only look at letter grades, no +/-. Your grades and your TEAS scores are weighted equally. If you have a 4.0 select and a 91 TEAS, your score would be 1.91. The lowest score I have heard anyone enrolled mention was a 1.83. I'm not saying that was a cutoff, but that's the lowest I heard. Hope that helps.

AZwannabe, the name was blocked out, if you have time could you email me at [email protected]? I would really appreciate it!

Hello everyone, I'm so glad I found this. I'm also applying for Spring 2014, although I'm freaking out big time. I need some words of encouragement to keep me going:(

I have my undergrad in Life Science from ASU (3.45 gap). I originally intended to apply for a PA program but then decided to look into nursing and i think it would work better for me all the way around. Unfortunately although I've taken a lot of science classes (genetics, cell bio, ecology, animal phys, o chem, & gen chem) none of them (except chem) really helped with the pre-reqs for nursing, so needless to say deciding to pursue nursing rather than PA was a hard decision. So now I'm here and have been trying to take as many classes as I can hadle to be able to apply this year. I have two small kids and I feel like I'm drowning. I'm currently taking BIO 201, HCR220 and MIC 206. I'm doing good but I'm barely hanging on to my As, I am trying so hard because this is my only chance to raise my GPA so that I stay competitive. Reading all the posts at the beginning really frightened me, I now that if I A my classes the highest I can bring my gap to is 3.8 (assuming ALL As). I'm worried because I don't have a backup plan, I've already invested so much time in school and if I don't get in it will be another wasted year. Do you guys know how difficult the TEAS is? Does anyone know how it compares to the GRE? I'm hoping we can communicate through the rest of the year, I need support from others that are going through the same stressful situation, here's where I stand:

CDE232 - A

CHM101 - A in lecture / B in lab

PSY101 - A

STATS - A

MIC lecture B / MIC Lab - in progress at ASU Tempe (I know I'm not getting an A, it's prob going to be a B)

HCR220 - ASU I think I'll get an A

BIO201 - ASU Tempe I have an A but barely hanging on

BIO202 - Summer 1 2013

NTR - Summer 2 2013

HCR - fall 2013

Any thoughts are appreciated, I know all of you can relate to my anxiety and stress:). Thank you all!

Hi BellaFond. I personally think a 3.88 GPA sounds great! I will probably have the same as I got a B in stats a few years back. They only count 8/10 prereqs for your GPA, 3/4 have to be your lab science so you could just not count MIC to bring your GPA up? I have no idea about the TEAS, as I have not taken it. Have you attended the info session?

Hi Courtneyfaith,

Yes, I didn't think about leaving MIC out of the select GPA. Yes, I've attended the initial information session, but now I'm waiting for the one given to those that are ready to apply. I actually was feeling okay about my grades but then I started reading the stats from those that applied last year and I got really scared. I probably won't take the TEAS until the summer, I need to brush up on my math. I just wanted to get an idea of the difficulty level. I had a friend who took the HESI to enter the community college RN program and so I was wondering if maybe the TEAS was comparable to it.

Has anyone else signed up for the placement workshop? I'm going on April 8. :)

BellaFond- where did you see the stats from last year? Do you just mean on this forum? SapphireSky- I also am registered for April 8th at noon! I hope to get to meet you there!

Also one last question. Is anyone aware definitively if the TEAS can only be taken once or can be taken twice? I've been given confusing/conflicting info. I have an advising apt Wednesday so I'll be sure to ask then too. When I look for TEAS exam dates I only see Grand Canyon (and evit in Mesa) but they said you can only take it there if you're applying there. I am looking through ATI website, is there a different place I should be looking or are there just no dates up yet for us?

Yay!!! We will definitely get to meet. :). My name is Rachel and I have crazy curly hair. I'm getting excited!

I should have asked the advisor about the post-bac admission cut off. I saw the summer traditional cut off score was 1.69. Even if I don't get into the post-bacc program, I think I have a good shot at the year-round traditional.
