Having someone come in from the outside can make a huge difference in attitude. Can you get someone from your state/county health department to discuss evidence-based maternity care practices? Try implementing the Can Do 5! /AZ Baby Steps to Breastfeeding Success if they won't look at Baby Friendly. Good luck

I am currently working as a PRN LC. My day is typically 9 until everyone is seen. Sometimes that is 3 pm, other days it is 6 pm. Moms are seen in order of severity. Whether they are waiting on discharge, pt request, nurse request or physician order, we still try to see the most urgent first (e.g. baby hasn't fed, mom is cracked, bleeding, etc. ) We try to see all breastfeeding moms at least once before discharge. We document every visit and list observations, referrals, and teaching. Other duties include committee work, in-services, weekly breastfeeding support group, phone calls from discharged moms, calls from med-surg floors with lactating patients. I'm currently in the PB program. The best advice I can give is be flexible. Extremely flexible. Ridiculously flexible. Your schedule will change frequently, often with little or no notice. The schedule you have been led to believe you will have may start an hour earlier than what you were originally told. You might find out this tidbit 3 days before your clinicals start. Ignore whatever is printed as your clinical start time until you have confirmation from your faculty. Not good when you have to arrange childcare, but that is reality. I have no idea what your schedule will be for classes, since they change things up each semester. Hopefully, this will give you an idea. For us, Spring semester was 9:00-2:00 or so for lectures M/W/F. Lab/clinicals T/Th. Lab starts at 7:30 and usually ends between 2:30-3:30. Most clinicals start at 6:30, although some started earlier depending on when the facility changes shifts. Summer was 2 days of lecture at 8:30, with 3 days of 2 clinicals/ 1 lab. You'll also be an taking online class. Fall starts out with lecture 7:30 -3:00 Th/Fr, a seminar a couple of M each month and lab/clinical Tu/We. You also have another online class. Second half of the semester is much lighter than the first. We have 1 day of clinical, 1 day of class from 7:30-3:00, plus a different online class. Hope this gives you an idea of what to expect. Good luck! It is a crazy year, but it goes by really fast.

I am currently enrolled in the Post-Bacc program. I would strongly recommend that you ask to speak with -------------- in the advisement office. When you call in to schedule your appointment, they will fit you in with the first available advisor. She is the one who is dedicated to the program, so you should get accurate info the first time around. The others in the office don't know all the answers, so save yourself some frustration. As far as grades, they only look at letter grades, no +/-. Your grades and your TEAS scores are weighted equally. If you have a 4.0 select and a 91 TEAS, your score would be 1.91. The lowest score I have heard anyone enrolled mention was a 1.83. I'm not saying that was a cutoff, but that's the lowest I heard. Hope that helps.

Hi Everybody- I just wasted 15 minutes trying to figure out where to post the health insurance info on certifiedbackground.com. It goes under your immunization record (which still will say complete, BTW), but when you click on your record, it will have a spot for health insurance. Not sure if anybody else will have trouble figuring that out, but I figured it couldn't hurt to pass the info along. Hope it helps!!

They had my name/spouse's name/ address incorrect, but my scores were fine. Extra special! 1.873 score.

I took it over the summer at Rio Salado and got an A. It was a lot less work than A&P. Weekly quizzes, a midterm, a final and a few essay questions. All tests were at home, so I didn't have to drive down to Rio's test center. I was pleasantly surprised by that! I, too, hated most of my classes at Rio, but nobody else offered Patho online. I don't think I heard a peep from my instructor all semester. He sent me a really nice email right about the time for instructor evals, offering to write a recommendation. I had absolutely NO contact with the man, so I thought it was kind of funny.

Grrrrr. I called the admissions office today. I was told letters would go out next week or two. Nothing like having 4 weeks notice (including Christmas) to uproot our lives!

Hi There- I submitted my application, so I'm waiting to hear the decision, as well. I have a 4.0 Select GPA and an 88% TEAS. I was feeling confident until I logged on here :-) It would be nice to know one way or the other, so I could start planning for the spring. If I don't get in, I'm going to apply for Grand Canyon in the Summer. Anybody else have backup plans?
