ASU 2016 Applicants - Which Cohort?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey everyone,

I am applying by the Feb. 1st deadline for the cohorts beginning summer/fall this year (2016). I take the TEAS in a week, so I'm all sorts of nervous, but I'm having trouble deciding how to rank my preference of cohorts on my application. I'm debating on whether or not to put the regular downtown cohort as my number 1, or the Mayo cohort as number 1. VA would be my third, and the summer program would be my fourth.

I'm really torn. I've heard great things about Mayo, and it would be amazing to work there after I'm done with school, but I feel like you lose out on the "college experience", as well as a variety of clinicals. I'd just be happy to be accepted into the program, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get advice/opinions from others in my situation!

Thanks :)

Per my advisor a moment ago:

We had a large number of applications which has delayed our communications. We expect final decisions to be sent out on mid-April.

We can hang in there! Just another week or so... :whistling:

Wohooooo! Confirmation letters went out today!!! Not everyone has gotten theirs get (including me) but a ton of people have!

Just got mine...FYI they only give until NOON on THIS FRIDAY to reply!! So much for the 5 days...

I look at it this way... the sooner we have to reply, the sooner we get sent acceptance letters. :)

Definitely - just hope no one misses theirs thinking the standard reply time was 5 days.

Do you or anyone else know the next steps/timeline for official acceptance?

Hey shotcaller,

My advisor mentioned a couple of weeks ago that she anticipates we would know of our acceptance within a week of the forms being submitted. So I imagine (if all goes according to plan) that we would know by next Friday!

In case you haven't seen it, there is another thread on here you that might want to check out. A lot of us are on that one as well! :)

Didn't realize I had my confirmation email until Thursday night, after I got off work. This is seriously screwed up! I don't think they would've liked all the tantrums I would've thrown had I not met the deadline.

Hopefully we hear back soon, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm glad that you noticed it in time! My friend wasn't so lucky...

I'm sure your friend could still reply to the email and complain about the short notice. I'd try anyway, I'm sure they're expecting complaints.

I wonder if they did it to try and weed out some applications from the list? See who was really on top of checking their email daily? Idk? This whole process has been super stressful. I'm actually starting to have a little anxiety over not getting everything financially in place in time if I do get into the summer cohort :(

She had tried calling them around 12pm to inform them that she would be turning it in late, (the line was SUPER busy) as she still had to print the documents but couldn't as she was at work, and they said they'd happily accept them but she only had until 12:20pm to do it. I drove over to her work with the documents, but I don't think we made it in time, as the clock was at 12:45pm and she didn't receive a confirmation email afterward like I did.

I imagine they will still accommodate everyone, but only originally set that time so people would turn them in by the end of the business day, so at 5pm, almost everyone's papers would be in. I image this was so on Monday, everything was all laid out and ready. I don't think it will be completely treated as a "hard" deadline, nor do I think it was to weed anyone out (people work so they can't always check their emails). I think it will all work out, unless someone waited until Saturday/today (unless it's an extreme circumstance).
