ASU 2016 Applicants - Which Cohort?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey everyone,

I am applying by the Feb. 1st deadline for the cohorts beginning summer/fall this year (2016). I take the TEAS in a week, so I'm all sorts of nervous, but I'm having trouble deciding how to rank my preference of cohorts on my application. I'm debating on whether or not to put the regular downtown cohort as my number 1, or the Mayo cohort as number 1. VA would be my third, and the summer program would be my fourth.

I'm really torn. I've heard great things about Mayo, and it would be amazing to work there after I'm done with school, but I feel like you lose out on the "college experience", as well as a variety of clinicals. I'd just be happy to be accepted into the program, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get advice/opinions from others in my situation!

Thanks :)

I believe if there is anything wrong or incomplete with your application (missing classes, incomplete certifiedbackground reqs, etc), they will send you an email by the end of February. I don't think they send out acceptance letters until the end of March/Beginning of April.

Edit: forgot to post my info.

My first choice is Summer, and my 2nd choice is Mayo. I would've chosen Mayo as my first choice if they had a Summer program, but I want to be done as soon as possible. I got an 86 on the TEAS (really bombed the English section), so my overall score would be 1.86.

This semester there are an extra 20 or so spots because of Mayo, so we have a better chance of getting in. Now, whether or not you'll get your first choice is another thing, since everyone I've talked to wants to get into the Mayo cohort.

Good luck, everyone!

Hey guys!

Is anyone else freaking out?

Yes! When will we find out if we have gotten in or not lol. I'm dying over here waiting. Lol

My advisor contacted me last Friday to tell me I was ill-advised and have to re-take a class that I took pass/fail - thank goodness for Rio Salado and their quick classes, I guess! :-/

But, he said our first email notification should be coming maybe this week or next.

Good luck to all!

Hi shotcaller! I'm glad she called you just in time to let you know that your class needed to be re-taken.

Also, it appears that we'll be getting an email either this week or next of our intent to enroll in the ASU nursing program and to make sure our information is correct. We'll have to fill something out and then return it to them. Once they get those letters back (we'll have 5 days to do it), within a week of them receiving them all, they'll send out acceptance letters. So we probably wont know until (at the very latest) April 15th. A classmate told me her advisor told her all of this.

I'm getting excitedddd!!!

Has anyone received an email yet? A couple weeks ago, my adviser told me it should be coming soon, but I have yet to receive anything. I'm starting to get anxious.

Unfortunately no -- this is frustrating!! But, it must come soon....

Yeah, nothing yet. Seems kind of odd. Even the advancement packet says that review emails will be sent out in March. Definitely starting to get frustrating.

I agree with the frustration! If we are to start in May we don't have long to get stuff in order which seems kinda crappy. How long does it take for school loans and such to come through? :( I'm so stressed just waiting around. Lol

I'm surprised that we haven't heard anything yet. In the past years people would get accepted by late March, yet we haven't even received a confirmation email and it's already early April. I hope everyone who is summer start will still have enough time to get prepared with books, loans, materials, etc. I wonder what's going on, as my advisor thought we'd find out in late March as well.

Yeah, Its so late now I just don't know if I was accepted to summer if I would have enough time to get everything in place. Which totally breaks my heart. =(

We should know by mid April, so that would give us around 4 weeks-ish? I'm not a financial aid candidate (grant, loan, etc.) :(, so I don't know how long it takes to come through. However, I do know that ASU NaMU (merit) scholarships do come through immediately (within a week of the semester starting).
