Ashland University ABSN Summer 2018

Published

Hey guys!

I was recently accepted to the Ashland University ABSN program in Ohio for their summer 2018 cohort. I've found about everything there is to find on the website (lol) but I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experiences or opinions about the school? I'd also love to hear from any recently accepted or future students. Any information would be greatly appreciated! See y'all this summer!!

I used to be student there, so I know all insight. If you decide to attend this school be prepared to kiss everyone's butt, and if you speck up about abuse they will charge tuitions and kick you out of the program. HORRIBLE school. "professors" told me in my face "YOU SHOULD NOT BE A NURSE" really? I NEVER asked for "professional " opinion. They HATE people who is different, so my friend with black skin had to take all exams 2 times (during entire 1st semester), because faculty did not believe that she pass exams on her own. 1st grade was counted only. I was never abused in my life. I learn there how is this like to be abused. HATE this school. I plan to write formal compain to BON in OHIO when I pass my nclex

Woooowww whattt??? So are you saying they are discriminating in this school? She took exam twice because “faculty did not believe she could pass” on her own? So how exactly is The program, how are the exams? How are clinicals ?

To be honest she's not exaggerating one bit. All of my friends that were people of color faced much more difficulties than the caucasian students (such as repeating practicums, less help/mentoring/words of encouragement) and the professors use the term "incompetent" quite often when referring to you if they feel you are unable to do something. Probably because they test for our "competency" so frequently they feel it's okay to use the opposite word. Even holding students back from progressing to the next class seemed like it happened more to minorities and people of color than the caucasian students (unfortunately, some of who should have legitimately been held back but were given a pass by the professor). It's definitely a game of polities and preference at this school.

In regard to the high NCLEX pass rate, I'm honestly starting to believe it's because they will hold you back for some reason or another that by the end of the program, most of the student that made it through were strong test takers and didn't need much help to begin with. The professor's idea of "teaching and preparing" consists of having you do a bunch of work on your own with no explanation as to why certain answers are right or wrong. We basically taught ourselves what we needed to know and had to jump through hoops of hell and egos tomake it through this program. Had I known what I would experience coming to this school I would've gone somewhere else!

Yes, she was discriminated, but she was afraid to tell any one, her goal was to graduate. I speak up about abuse and in the end they kicked me out with $16 000 in loans and worthless classes. In clinical you would feel like piece of ....., you instructor will scream at you (in your face up close ) and make you feel that you are stupid. You would be scared to go to clinical's, so many girls was crying after some clinical s. In the end school had to let go one of the clinical instructors because she step over the line and to many students got their staff together and speak up about abuse.

A lot of teachers used test banks question for their exams, so it was easy to pass their classes, but they would not teach you good enough to pass nclex. Trust me I know, I went to different school without requirements to pass predictability in order to see for nclex. I did not study and I got 98% chance of passing nclex.

If you are not white american from north DO NOT go to this school. You would not know much as the nurse

Wow why were you kicked out? You didn’t pass your classes or you failed clinicals? Or what happened?? Well I am black and that is Not good to hear. I don’t really have a choice but to attend this school ?? because I was denied to so many

well, I speak about abuse, I contacted to many people, so they decided just to fail me. My clinical instructor made up stories, it was her word against my word. No one can perform at their best if they are stressed and scared. Clinical instructor claimed that I was not safe and I was taking to much time. When I was skipping steps in order to save time per her advice she accused me of being incompetent.

There is many school who would give you 2nd chance. For example Mercy in Iowa, Belarrmine in KY and 2 more I do not remember the name.

By away you can get free education in NC in you stay here for 1 year to become resident, or the same program exist in New York state.

If you work as CNA for VA for 2 years they would pay for your education + you would get %50 of your pay during school.

You can get your Master degree at UNC from 1st day of full time work or after 2 years at RN you can get degree from Duke.

Do not speak up and prepare to go to court if they discriminate you. I will support you 100 %. I might even talk into other black girl to join us, so we would have your back. Study more than other people. Expect to take your math exams for peds more often than other , and they would not let you to attend peds clinical if you do not pass peds math from first time. expect for instructors to use test bank for every class, so you would pass classses without problem.

P.s I graduated with honers from different nursing school.. I was precept in ICU and ER for 180 hours in each clinical, so you see my skills was not a problem.

Few things I wish I would know before nursing school:

1) to get level 3 on ATI check out Cathy Parks video - get her card if you can afford

2) Ace patho and pharm -

picmonic = MUST have product for every nursing student . I believe there is no credit card requirement for 7days trial With this code you will get 7 days free picmonic trial and 20 % discount if you decide to purchase this product

https://www.picmonic.com/referrals/3YZNWEIDMGVVLK418?redirect=/home

3) Ace nclex with uworld or kaplan. I have 25 % discount code for Kaplan and I can share if you are interested uworld notes

Oh I forgot to mention about suicide statistic in Ashland University . I am not going to discuss it, other wise I am going to scare you

Hello!

I have been accepted to Ashland University ABSN program August 2019. I was reading your posts and saw you guys started last year I just wanted to know your thoughts about the program? I haven't visited but I've talked to a lot of the staff over the phone and they are all very nice and helpful and they have great NCLEX scores so they must be doing something right. But I wanted to see how you guys liked the program, would be super helpful!!

Hey there! I just read through this thread and I am feeling a little disheartened. How has the program been for you? I am a POC and I absolutely fear experiencing some of the comments posted on here. Have you witnessed or experienced this from faculty & professors?

I have applied and I am just waiting for my transcript evaluation and a decision. I've been accepted to a few schools already but I am highly considering Ashland because it is way more affordable compared to my other programs.

Anyone else a current student in the ABSN program please comment!!

Specializes in BS in public health.

Hello Was just accepted into the fall 2021 cohort. Can anyone give me more information as I was not given much? An email to a counselor or something would be great as well! to those who are in the program currently, how is it?
