Hi!!! I desperatly want to move to the Asheville North Carolina area when I graduate from nursing school (ADN). I have researched the pay scale vs the cost of living and I don't like what I see. I need some advice from people who actually live and work in Asheville. What is the pay scale for graduates at MSJ and Vets hospital? Any hospitals close to Asheville with good working conditions and salary? Any advice is appreciated
Thanks
Tammy
I too am Asheville bound from south Florida, though I don't know how it's all going to come together. From what it sounds like, the pay scale and the cost of living are similar. I'll be graduating from my RN program in December 2005. I assume I'll be good and broke by then. Thank God it's just me and my two cats to worry about. Should make moving easy. I don't know where the money will come from for the move; sign on bonuses in NC for new grads maybe? The licensure and the NCLEX and the whole transition thing presents a lot of questions. Any advice?

When do you graduate? Asheville is a great place to live. I did a lot of research about the place before I left Florida. Mainly because I have 3 kids and wanted to make sure that the school system and the community would have a lot of offer them. They do. The kids are well adjusted to the area and I am also pleased. I think the best part of being here are the mountains and the people. Everyone is very friendly. The job market is ok. There are at least 2 local community colleges and a univesity system that put out a fair number of new grads .... it appers from what I can see that new grads are getting their pick of the jobs here, so I am sure you will not have any trouble getting a job. THere are several different places you can explore.

Carla - good luck on your move. I have lived in Asheville now for a little over 8 months. Love it here. The people are wonderful and it really is a terrific place to live. There are plenty of jobs for nurses and you should not have any problem finding a position. Check out Asheville Specialty Hospital as well as Mountain area HOSPICE. You might find what you are looking for with one of these two places.
Good luck on your move and welcome to Asheville. The festivals are all just about starting .... be sure to go to some .... it is really a great time.
