As a CNA, what can I do to prepare for LPN school?

Hi everybody!

I have been a CNA for just over a year now, in LTC. My plan is to start LPN school early next year. Entrance exams are in January and April. I do what I can at work with the nurses to learn procedures, and they know my goals, so they let me help. I'm always asking questions. :)

What can I do outside of work to get a jump start on school? I have more free time now than I know I will when school starts, so I know that anything I can learn before then will help. (Which is partly why I became a CNA in the first place!) Any books I can read, helpful websites, etc. What are some of the things that you wish you had already learned before school?

Anything and everything will help!! I love to read, so novels are acceptable! ;)

I am also a CNA..i have my interview for lpn school the 26th of April and the classes start in July..I've had my CNA certification for a year and a half.

I find Tilda Shalof's books to be an awesome unassigned read. She is an ICU nurse in Canada and has wrote a couple books on her journey as a nurse. I especially liked "The Making of a Nurse."

Hey Dondie!

My interview went well! Wasn't long at all. Was in and out in about 30 minutes. Asked me why i wanted to become a nurse. do i have any medical background. Things like that.

I recieved my acceptance letter today! I was shocked because i was thinking it would take a month or at least two weeks. But i received it today and im SOO glad that i got that over with and now will be starting in July :)

HI CONGRATz ON YOUR LETTER.....IM A CNA JULY WILL MAKE A YEAR. I JUST STARTED LVN SCHOOL MONDAY WAS MY ORUENTATION WED WAS MY FIRST DAY OF CLASS I UNDERESTIMATED IT I THOUGHT IT WUD BE LIK ANY OTHA SCHOOL BUT WE JUMPD RitE INTO 3 CH THE VERRRRY FIRST DAY I THOUGHT THIS CANT BE NORMAL..ETC SOive STARTED TEACHING MYSELF AND I RECORD THE LECTURES MY CLASS IS 17MONTHS BECAUSE IM PT THERE AND I WORK FT AS A CNA BECAUSE I HAVE FOUR KIDS AND CANT AFFORD TO QUIT

Welcome to nursing school! We go over 3 or more chapters a night for each subject we have (Fundamentals 5 chapters a night, Nutrition 3 chapters a night and A&P 3 chapters) then we have 3 tests a week on all that we went over the week before! I am so sleep deprieved, but know this will pay off in the end. It is so hard to keep up on all the reading and find myself staying up most of the night on the weekends to catch up on everything...:eek:

@ilovepurple.....you seriously jumped right in the first day with 3 chapters? Thats crazy! I thought we would at least go over the things we were going to do throughout the year,go over the syllabus and things like that. But you guys actually had homework the first day of class? i guess thats awesome. Right down to the point and to hurry and get it over with.

When did you get your books. I've been so anxious about getting excepted and things like that. You would think that i would calm down after my acceptance letter. But no...im excited to go shopping for all my things
