As a CNA, what can I do to prepare for LPN school?

Published

Hi everybody!

I have been a CNA for just over a year now, in LTC. My plan is to start LPN school early next year. Entrance exams are in January and April. I do what I can at work with the nurses to learn procedures, and they know my goals, so they let me help. I'm always asking questions. :)

What can I do outside of work to get a jump start on school? I have more free time now than I know I will when school starts, so I know that anything I can learn before then will help. (Which is partly why I became a CNA in the first place!) Any books I can read, helpful websites, etc. What are some of the things that you wish you had already learned before school?

Anything and everything will help!! I love to read, so novels are acceptable! ;)

Thank you!

@ilovepurple.....you seriously jumped right in the first day with 3 chapters? Thats crazy! I thought we would at least go over the things we were going to do throughout the year,go over the syllabus and things like that. But you guys actually had homework the first day of class? I guess thats awesome. Right down to the point and to hurry and get it over with.

When did you get your books. I've been so anxious about getting excepted and things like that. You would think that i would calm down after my acceptance letter. But no...im excited to go shopping for all my things

congrats to all of you!

Keep in touch throughout the year!

I have just completed my first week in LPN school. Have taken 3 tests my first week. The best advice I can give you as far as preparing for school is to get some books now and start studying. A&P,A&P, A&P. We started with Med Term, which you prob know some of, being a CNA, A&P, and Foundations. Med Term seems to be easy so far(just my first week,so it might get harder),Foundations, the first 2 or3 chpts. seem to be common sense stuff, but A&P is the most confusing stuff I've ever seen. We are into cell parts, OMG! I hope once we get into the body parts and organs, it will get better. I am truely wishing I had taken a class somewhere on it before starting school. Hope this helps.
