Army Reserve TIG Question

So I got an email stating that the TIG for promotion was reduced to 24 months for 1LT to Captain. Anyone know what the time in service requirement for 1LT to Captain is for the Army Reserves?

Thanks for the speedy response. Last I knew the TIG was 24 months and the TIS was 48 months. Everyone I asked at my unit has a different answer. So the TIG and TIS are the same now for CPT promotions?

TIS can be less then 48months depending on the amount of constructive credit you recieve when you commission. As far as active I know of nurses who picked up O3 with 3 years TIG & TIS. The TIG is longer in the reserves then active.

I have a question similar to this. I am a BSN RN with 2 years, 5 months as RN. I am CCRN, TNCC & CEN certified. I have 6 years, 2.5 months of prior service Army. I am in the last steps of commissioning as an 8A. I am wanting to confirm what rank I will commission in as? What might be the promotion time line to CPT? What can I to make myself a prime candidate to be promoted below the zone once I reach CPT to MAJ?

From what I am reading you should come in as a 2LT, O2E with around 14-15 months TIG unless your prior service was commissioned. If your prior service was commissioned service I am not sure since your past time will count to some degree but not totally but you will not have the "E".

Time line for promotion to Captain with no prior commission is 39 months for active duty at the present time before you can pin on Captain. When I was in the Reserves it was 48 months before you could pin on Captain. If you come in as a 2LT with 15 months it will be 33 months before you will pin on O3. The actual time you pin on will depend on when you go up to the board.

When I was in the Reserves I never heard of anyone getting picked up BZ for Major. That does not mean it does not happen but it is very diffucult. The Captain board is normally a fully qualified board which means if you are qualified you will get pick up when you are in the zone.

Your TIS will be the 6/2.5 for pay & retirement.

Thank you JECKRN for the response. My apologizes for not specifying that my prior service was enlisted; 3yrs, 9mths, 2 days Active Army & 2 yrs, 5 mths, 16 days National Guard. I was told that my 2 years 7 months LPN time won't count since it was not professional experience in the Army's eyes.

If understand you correctly, it will be 4 years before I am TIG eligible for CPT? I assume that the total 6yrs, 4mths, 14 days will count as my total TIS?

BOLC will be scheduled as quickly as I get scrolled and in-processed with my new unit. Scrolling will have to wait until the Senate reconvenes.

Promotion to 1LT is an adminstrative promotion once you have the TIG. Keep on your S1 since they might forget you have constructive credit and not promote you when they should. Point wise you should be ok to get O2E since it looks like you have more then 1460 points between AD & Guard. That is something else you need to keep up on, it can take sometime to get it straightened out if you do not make sure you get it when you start drilling. Since you are reserves you will start drill before you get in your BOLC class.

Thank you again. Is there any military education I should fast track doing? I was told by the healthcare recruiter any classes were on hold until I finished BOLC. I have thought of working on my Master's once I in-process and have the military education discounted tuition. I still debate if I want to pursue Clinical Nurse Specialist, ACNP, healthcare administration. Regardless, I want to have the option to maintain a competitive edge in my profession as well as the Army. My core RN experience has been Surgical/ Trauma ICU, which has given me a comfortable edge in the market here.

TA is might be decreasing in the near future, there has been talk about it but you never know until it happens. As an officer TA has payback time, don't remember what it is. If you have any GI bill left speak with a GI bill counsler about if it would be good for you to convert it to the 911 GI bill.

TA is currently $4500 per fiscal year, and you have an active duty service obligation (ADSO) of two years after the date of the last class you finish that is paid for by TA.

If I remember right the payback for reserves is 1 year for every 6 months of TA you use. It is on a rolling bases so when you do finish you only have 1 year of obligated service in the reserves. You will need to check with your education person once you get in your unit.
