Hi!
Where you report depends on where you are assigned and where there is a slot available. You may or may not get a choice.
the health insurance offered is TriCare Reserve Select
TRICARE Reserve Select
TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS) is a premium-based health plan that qualified National Guard and Reserve members may purchase. TRS, which requires a monthly premium, offers coverage similar to TRICARE Standard and Extra.
Key features of TRS include:
[*]No referrals are required, but some care may require prior authorization.
[*]May have to pay for services when they are received and then seek reimbursement.
[*]May have to submit health care claims.
[*]May receive care in a military treatment facility (MTF) on a space-available basis only.
[*]Offers comprehensive health care coverage including TRICARE's prescription drug coverage.

They will try to assign you to a unit within a 50 mile radius from your home if a unit is available.

for folks that dont have access to reasonable insurance for themselves or their families, this is a great opportunity to get it. or even for those that have rotton insurance already. The only people that arent eligible are those with fehb or federal employee ins. but the federal ins is pretty good and you really dont need it. I am going to sign up for the tricare dental though because I need some stuff done. it is exp for family but cheap for the employee.
I hear from different people that Tricare is a good deal! and that its portable and it covers quite a bit. I had originally planned on getting it for myself and my 4 remaining children but right now where I am working there is really good insurance w/ rx. coverage so I have no need to switch. But, since I dislike the job that I have, I have been looking to move on and will probably pick up TriCAre then, esp. since 1 of my kids has crohn's and requires an Iv infusion every 7 weeks and labs periodically.

If you are not within 50 miles of a reserve unit you might want to do a search on google for APMC NAAD. It is based in Atlanta now and has options for people geographically unavailable within a reasonable commuting distance to a reserve unit. Hope this helps.
