Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

Thanks for the heads up. The LTHET sounded too good to be true.

Wait a minute, Ajax! I'm an Army Reservist, who took the $50K Loan Repayment bonus 3 years ago (Feb 2010, to be exact) and was boarded for LTHET in Nov 2012. I got picked up for USAGPAN and will make the transition to Active Duty this Spring in order to join the USAGPAN class starting in June 2013.

It IS possible! Let me know if you have any questions about the process. I will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

If you remember, I am joining the reseves as a 66F. I still have not received my orders either. My recruiter said they have been requested, so I just have to sit and wait. He said I should actually receive my bonus money before my orders, which I find strange, but I will be happy to get either. I have been reluctant to start purchasing too much of the uniform before I receive official notice. Good luck to all of those going to BOLC. I will not be attending until the fall.

what kind of bonus did your recruiter say you would receive before your orders? I may be stepping out on a limb here, but I highly highly doubt you will get any bonus before reporting to your reserve unit and after your BOLC.

Brandonscott, I am prior service also, my report date on my orders is 14MAR13 to fort Sam. Hope this helps.

No, I get my bonus before BOLC. This has been repeatedly asked and answered. It's a sign on bonus. I just would be surprised to get it before my orders. On another note: I am looking for places to go and try on women's combat boots. My local army surplus only had men's styles, and nothing fit. I hate to order over the Internet and then need to send back. I have a hard time fitting shoes. I live in Michigan. Thanks!

I am not aware of a woman combat boot, you just adjust the size to a womans size is all. I also received a sign on bonus when I joined the army. I was not in reserves I was active, I just have never heard of someone being able to get the bonus before arriving at your unit, da71 being done, and being placed in the deers system. Is this something specific for reservists? Like have you already reported to your unit? And, have you already been enrolled in deers?

My recruiter is driving me up to camp Greyling to buy my uniform and I live in Michigan too! I had no idea any other Michiganders would be going! Exciting!

Seriously! Oh goodness! I am sorry! That was a bad joke!

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question. How long after the issue of your RFO to HRC, did you guys get your orders. I just got my RFO issued today. I am currently active duty enlisted soldier.

It sounds like you get picked up by active duty, not the reserves. I am not saying it is impossible but it is hard because of the way schools are funded in the reserves vs AD.
