Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

I know you really want AD, but paying loans would be great. Would being in the Reserves preclude you from applying for USAGPAN later? Or you could also go AD later... I am not helping. Lol.

brandonscott116, you will go home to your family every night except those that you spend in the field at camp bullis

Thanks.. unfortunately my family won't be coming down to BOLC is probably over but I guess I will go home every night and.... sleep maybe?? Haha... sorta sucks.

:) Lunah you are totally helping...after 36months in reserves I could apply to USAGPAN, MSN STRAP or put packet in for AD.

Either way I think staying on OML until 2014 is a non-starter. I want to start serving.

You make a good point of getting loans repaid, get some exp to 1st LT then apply to USAGPAN/ AD

Thank you for your help!

Hey everybody, congrats to everybody heading to bolc, I'm jealous that I'm not heading down there with you guys.

The Army gave three options yesterday, I'd lik to hear what you all think.

1. Stay on OML for AD and reapply for ad for fy 2014

2. Flip to reserves commission as a 66h get a loan repayment of 50k and serve 3years at ft.meade.

3. Flip to reserves as 8a for 1year and apply to usagpan as thru LTHET

I am torn between repaying my student loans and taking a shot a full ride for grad school.

What do you think?

I know that they offered you LTHET in the reserves, but during my time in the reserves I do not know of one person who it was awarded to. So just be careful on that one. Yes, there are programs for reservist to go to LTHET, & periop, ER, ICU courses etc. but it comes down to funding and who is paying for it. Most of the time in the reserves the unit has to pay for it and they just does not have the money for it.

Thanks for the heads up. The LTHET sounded too good to be true.

hmm. That is a predicament. Is FY2014 really that much of a non starter. I know that is what you want to do. 1 year to wait is a lot less than 3. I am going to say, you should ask yourself this question in a dark quiet place. Whatever answer you come up with first, is going to be the best.

Thanks everybody for your input, I'll definitely keep you all posted on what happens.

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to see if anyone else has received their official orders yet? I can't believe it is so close!

Nope still waiting for mine! We gotta have them by the time we leave right?

You will recieve a welcome to the corp email from LTC ******* and then she will give you some anticipated dates. Once you respond to her with the proper information the orders are cut fairly quickly. My wife recieved her orders within 48 hours from the date she spoke with LTC Hartman. A few things make sure you list where your dependants will be during school as that is the BAH rate you will recieve. If the orders are cut then you catch this they will have to be amended and that lengthens the process. Good Luck

This is stressing me out. No idea when I'm supposed to go to BOLC. I was told I didn't have to do pre-BOLC bc I'm prior service but yet when I called lodging in FT. Sam to figure out what dates are listed for BOLC starting in March there are none. She said there is one Feb. 28 and April 11. I mean if its Feb. 28 it is a literal cluster at this point as I am still working full time and haven't given a notice yet and have none of the packing list. Not to mention the fact that I have not talked to the moving company yet to arrange that process. I am excited about this whole process but I hate the fact that everything is so last minute it is impossible to plan on anything. Anyone have any insight.. I seem to get more info from here than anywhere. Thanks.

LTC ****** sent the welcome letter sometime a week and a half ago, my wife just got her official orders today. With all the other accompanying documents. So she is all set to head to Ft. Sam. On a side note, did anyone here that received orders also get an email from ********** AMEDDC&S MTSS Lodging, telling you to actually report to him and not building 592? She got one after her email with orders and I wanna make sure everyone else got the same.
