Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.
Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013
Ill start with my story,
I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.
I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).
I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.
The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an Accelerated BSN.
I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.
I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.
Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!
HOOOOOOAH!
Hey- yes I'm so glad as well!!! clee you let me know when you get inwe would be going to the same BOLC! Waiver is for a minor law violation when i was younger... embarrassing.
Weird right? If you were to try and enlist, you would be turned down, as they are accepting no waivers at all especially legal ones, but as an officer you get in. The Army needs to revise things, especially the little law violations. Things are different now, and there are alot of police and municipalities that are looking for anything they can to get money into the system so alot of people get into small trouble, whereas a decade or two ago you would get a slap on the wrist and brought home to your parents.
My best friend was turned down, for a tiny legal thing that happened when he was a minor, and though he scored very high on the ASVAB(97), has 95 credit hours of college, and in peak physical condition (able to run the 2 mile under 11 minutes), he was denied.
aAh now I'm nervous! It would really be a let down to hear I got in and then later I was denied because of something that happened so long ago.
oh no do not be worried, if it were a problem they most likely would not have even submitted the waiver. From what I understand, most in the USAREC community know not to even bother with a waiver if it will not get accepted. Do not worry. There is a large difference between someone joining as an 11B enlisted soldier, to someone joining with a bachelors in nursing and being a nurse.
Yes, I think I have read through every single person who listed their experience and I think from what I see no one else has been selected that is in the 2yrs or over with the ICU identifier. I know nursespouse's wife was however, she did not already have the identifier but will be doing the CCU classes now that she is accepted correct? So I think I will hold onto this over the weekend as I see lots of people in the med/surg area picked up and and the USAPAN applicants are still mostly waiting to hear but I don't see any 66H8a's that have been picked up that are not applying for USAPAN?....this is such torture. I am trying not to let it ruin my weekend, but the stress just went up a couple hundred degrees!
