Army Active Duty FY18

Hi all!

Anyone else complete a packet for the upcoming boards FY18 for Army Active Duty? My packet has been board approved and now it's just wait and see!

I'm applying as an ER nurse. I have a few years experience at a level 1 trauma center and a few board certifications. No prior military experience. I've been working on my packet for almost 6 months!

I'd like to hear what everyone else's experiences have been!

Hi texasbronco. Ya I was told by my recruiter that we will get pcs orders during bolc-b. Was your recruiter referring to DCC for August or bolc-b? What's your MOS? Congrats! Maybe we'll go thru this together. Lol

Just FYI, officers don't have an MOS; we have an AOC. :) All stuff you will learn!

I stand corrected. Sorry. I can't believe my recruiter hasn't corrected me on this. So what is your AOC you were selected for? Has anyone taken the OPAT test yet?

There's a lot of stuff you'll pick up! I was a 66HM5, which is now the 66T. I am off of active duty, in the IRR for another year until my obligation ends in 2019.

I heard the OPAT is a joke, and the standards and grading sheet are available online for anyone to see. Almost every single Officer position requires a score just barely above failing, otherwise called "Moderate," so, you will be just fine--hopefully!! Coincidently, the OPAT was created around the same time they decided to open up all MOS to females. And this is just me connecting the dots, it's purpose is to essentially keep all but the strongest females (and some males, I'm sure) out of the combat arms MOS (e.g. Infantry, Cav Scout, Armor, SF, etc).

Very true Armymedicrn. I shouldn't worry so much but that's just me. I'm striving to get the best scores possible on everything I do in the Army including the physical fitness portions. Is everyone wearing or did everyone wear ASUs for their commissioning ceremony? I keep getting told not to buy any of the uniforms prior to DCC. Sorry for the 100 questions but just want to be as prepared as one can be. Thanks everyone!

I was selected for 66T back in the Oct boards, only 1 of 2 selected, and I am also still waiting to be scrolled. That term basically means that you have to be sent through the SECDEF to be approved, as all Officers are, by Congress and the President. Now they aren't "approving" you by looking over your packet again, they just need to pencil whip an official signature on the scroll of potential officers, this is public access and you can look up the scrolls that Congress has signed off--the approval or disapproval process has already happened with your packet and the selection board. But this can take some time. Hope to see you in BOLC!

Do you know what site you can go to check scroll status? I have been selected for the reserves and am waiting for scroll.

It's through the Congress.gov website, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't upload the forms that timely. Your recruiter will probably get the status much quicker than that, but you can always check. Just go to the Congress.gov website and search your name.

Hey I am loving all of the questions! I feel like I get different information from my recruiter every week sometimes. He hasn't even mentioned OPAT. My AOC is 66S or ICU nurse Active Duty. I worked in trauma/SICU so I am hoping I get San Antonio for my first duty station since that is trauma 1. I also would like to know when we should start getting all our uniforms and everything. My recruiter said DCC will probably be in August with BOLC to follow.

I bought all my stuff before I left for BOLC.

What I have found is that for those of us who commission in the 66T or 66S specialty, sometimes they like to send us to smaller facilities that really need our skills. Probably more often with 66Ts than 66Ss because sometimes those smaller hospitals don't even have an ICU.

Pixie.RN, did you wear your ASU for commissioning? Ya I've heard the same for 66T and 66S. Also can you verify if this is true that all 66T must attend a mandatory cycle at Madigan joint base in Washington? Im hoping they pcs us (family) to Germany or somewhere we wouldn't normally go.

No, I just wore business casual. I have no idea about Madigan, but I know plenty of 66Ts who have never been there.
