  1. I'm really glad that they honored your contract. I would definitely say the majority do and I have been told that they may revise or redo my contract to allow me the retention bonus but it will only cover about half that I owe and tac an additional year to my service obligation. I was hoping to be in grad school once my 3 years was up but I guess you just gotta roll with it. Lastely and most important thank you to all you veterans for serving and giving us new medical soldiers all this help and advise. Means a lot. God Bless
  2. It's not just me. I've spoken to 3 others that had similar stories. My point with this is just for the people joining to be aware that your contract is not a contract. It is more of a written promise that can be modified at the military's discretion so just be aware that just bc it's in your contract it is not guaranteed.
  3. My case specifics are as follows. I was required to pass DCC and BOLC. Check! No issues there. Get pass on my APFT. Check! Turn in all required documents within 6 months of BOLC. Check! 2 weeks after my documents are turned into I receive an email saying I am not eligible due to me being in bankruptcy. So back up to the recruiting/board process. I gave my recruiters all bankruptcy documents and they said they would find out if I could even qualify for the hplrp. Their company command comes back with a hard yes. So at that point my packet is submitted including my bankruptcy documents. I'm selected for my 66T position. I commission and orders are cut. No issues. The only response myself, the liaison handling the congressional and the IG ever got as to why they are not paying is "it's an office policy." No legal grounds for denial. 4 seperate legal/jag offices have looked at my case and every single one of them have come back saying I am 100% eligible and my loans should be paid but no one can force their hand so I'm stuck with this worthless contract. If I missed anything feel free to ask away.
  4. Can you clarify? Not sure what you mean by "what happened to you" and what made my case different? Thanks There are actually quite a few others I have talked with were they attempted this but the other officers were able to get it resolved although they never had to go as far as filing and IG or Congressional. I've been here at my first command or Ft.Sam for over a year now. USAREC Jag and The Nurse Corp office had their Jag look at my contract and the documents I submitted and everything is 100%. No issues. Trust me when I say I feel like I'm stuck in a nightmare with this whole situation. I do not regret joining though. The people I have met and the experiences Ive had has been amazing and looking foward to what tomorrow brings me.
  5. Yes you can only do one or the other. I picked the hplrp. I figured getting my student loans paid back was more than enough and was very thankful for that. All paperwork was turned in on time and per the surgeon general's office requirements. They are just out right refusing to pay even though the ig investigator and the congressional inquiry office came back with word from seperate legal offices that stated it's in my contract and I followed everything to a T and all loans are eligible. But still they refuse to pay. Again my case is rare but as you can see what's in your contract is not guaranteed so I just want you new officers to know that it is a possibility that it could also happen to you.
  6. Is anyone here taking an accession or retention bonus? If so, just be aware that they still do not have to honor that what is put into the contract. I was given time credited to rank to First Lieutenant right after bolc and the hplrp. They are denying me my hplrp and and have yet to give me my promotion. I just want others to know what you are getting into before proceeding. I love the people I work with here in the military but I am disgusted that after all this hard work to be told we dont care what the contract says. I just cant believe that this happened. Please really think hard about this especially if you have a family. It will effect them too. Best of luck to all and please if you need info on anything at all from pcs to bolc or anything feel free to ask as the military is really bad about giving the correct and proper info to new soldiers and their familys. God Bless
  7. I would like to correct myself a little here. I misspoke when I said "most will do a few voluntary weeks". In actuality this only happens to one DCC class per year. So, basically there are 2 classes per year that end up having 3 weeks between DCC and BOLC and because technically Ft Sill is responsible for you until you go to BOLC and BOLC will not allow you to report early you end up stuck at Ft Sill for 3 weeks and you have to report to the hospital there every morning for PT and whatever odd jobs they have available for you to do. From what I heard from everyone it was a total waste of time. I was able to work out a deal between my company command at JBSA and the company commander at DCC to let me report back to JBSA for those 3 weeks since I had already PCS'd down here. That was a headache all its own. The company commander for DCC did approve people to go 10 days in the hole on leave if they chose to do so, so you could knock it down to 11 days stuck at Ft Sill instead of the 21 but that's not a guarantee for all classes. Also, if you already have leave built up you can choose to use it to go home in between. The other class that has the 3 week break is over a holiday and they were allowed to go home. Also, many National Guard members/Reservists went back to their units because they either were not going to the next BOLC class for one reason or another or because they were going to the BOLC short course. This is completely up to your unit. I hope this makes sense.

  9. Yes DCC is 4 weeks. It is more or less a crash course to basic training. Once completed most will do a few voluntary weeks working there b4 you will be out processed and then sent to Fort Sam or JBSA for BOLC. Its alot more strict at DCC than at BOLC so mentally prepare yourself for that. Congratulations to everyone who has been selected. Maybe we will run into each other some day! If you have any other questions feel free to ask away.
  10. Hello all. Hope all is going well. My AOC is 66T. I just graduated through AMEDD BOLC and started in the ER here at BAMC. The process for boards to commissioning and everything else that comes with this is gonna vary on a person to person basis. Itll depend on your recruiter and your assignment officer. Most everyone who is excepted will go through DCC in fort sill before you attend AMEDD BOLC here at ft. Sam. If you aren't prior service please reach out and talk to current and or prior amedd officers as there is alot of info they dont tell you b4 one joins. There were a ton of people who in my opinion dropped the ball when it came to my process which deeply affected my family and I. Anywho if anyone has any questions at all I am here for you and will help anyway I can. God Bless
  11. I'm going to respond to this as I am currently in AMEDD BOLC. So after talking to your recruiter they will start a packet. During completing this packet you will go to MEPS for medical clearance. Once this packet and MEPS is complete your packet will be submitted to a board which reviews in October. I was selected for my AOC 66T and was told they were only excepting 4 for fiscal year 2018. How true this is I dont know. I found out in November that I was selected. I didn't get my scroll until March and then commissioned in April. After commissioning I received my unofficial orders via email in late may. A week later I received my official orders. My orders were to PCS before all training was to begin to Ft Sam Houston. Most will not PCS before their training. Training is broken up into 2 separate programs. The first is called DCC and done at Ft.Sill. The Second is BOLC conducted here at Ft. Sam Houston. All together it is roughly 14 weeks. There is a lot that recruiters will not tell you mostly bc they have no clue and this can make the process very daunting so if you ever need info I'm more than happy to help.
  12. Hi! I commissioned April 6th as a 66T and am just waiting on my orders now. Did your PCS for Tripler come with your orders or did you get that later? I'm getting conflicting stories on what to expect.
  13. Thanks for all of your input, it helps me a lot! Was graduation on a Friday? If so did you have the weekend off to spend with family before your 2 week track?
  14. Thanks for the info that helps a lot. I can't seem to find much information on AMEDD BOLC graduation. Was it outside or inside? Is it kind of like a college graduation or more like basic training graduation? Can families attend?
  15. Did you notice if a lot of people were PCS'd to a post that was on their list of top picks or were most people sent else where?
