Hi Arizona nurses/nursing students!

I am applying for the RN program in October for Spring 05' and am wondering how I go about getting someone else other than me to pay for my RN education? When I start school, I would have to quit my full time job and get another part time job while I go to school. I would love to work at JCL Deer Valley because it is in my neck of the woods. I think they offer work-study programas where you have to work for them for a couple of years after you graduate to repay. Question is...concerning all hospitals, what is required to try and get these positions? Do I try to get into the hospital in any ol' entry level capacity and then apply? Is there a waiting period? Is it competetive or do they do it for a lot of students?

I am just wondering how to get the ball rolling and how hard it is going to be to get it going! I am taking Nurse Assisting classes this fall, so would be unable to be a NA until Novemeber or so. And that is if that is what I end up wanting to work as. Diet representative looks sorta fun too!LOL!

I would love any information from anyone who is currently trying to get their tuition paid for or has gone through one of these programs. Thank you all!

banner health has several different programs but it sounds like you are looking for one like the nurse fellowship program. give hr at good sam a call.

program details

* approximately 30 participants will be selected from the pool of mccd students who

have already completed their academic requirements and are ready to enter a nursing

program.

* banner health will pay for the cost of tuition, books, and fees directly to gateway

community college and associated bookstores.

* individuals selected to participate in the banner health nurse fellows program will

agree to work for banner health for three years after completing their nursing program.

* the banner health nurse fellows program uses the gateway community college

16-month accelerated program.

Hi Janice-

I haven't been here in a while...just saw your post. I started the ADN program in August and I'll be starting clinicals in two weeks....school is great so far, challenging, but it's great to learn all of these new skills and new information....I don't check here much, usually only when they send me the newsletter- I have an online class on top of the FT nursing classes so I've been busy. I think JCL has something just like that Banner one which was posted. They do it with PVCC. I saw it on their website. Good luck!

Does anyone know what the difference is when signing a contract like this? I was wondering, when you are working for the hospital for the few years after school, at what rate do they pay? Are you still eligible for bonus's? Per diem? Things like that?

Phoenix Girl,

I have not done extensive research on this, but I do believe you are treated exactly the same. It is just that you are now contracted with them to work for 1 or 2 years, in most cases. If you quit before that time is over, you must pay back the loan. I will be looking into such a program for school. I figure if I end up wanting to quit I am no worse off, as long as I expect to pay for school myself. That is, of course, if I don't get any scholarships. We'll see. Good Luck to you!!
