NET test in Arizona

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I was wondering if anyone had taken the NET recently in Arizona, specifically at one of the community colleges. I have to take it this month and am wondering what I should expect. I got the study guide, but I also have other classes right now and a full time job and am wondering how much time I need to spend preparing for this. I heard you need to score atleast 50%. Does anyone have comments for me on this?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!!

JD,

You are so great to go through all this trouble for me. I r eally appreciate everything. I have learned so much thus far!

I am getting really nervous......doubting this is something for me. I am trying to educate myself without really "scaring" myself. I want to read what it is to be a CNA, but I read it and then think "Does this sound like me?" and scrunch up my nose. I took all kinds of career tests when I was in my early 20's that told me I should be in a helping profession. Nursing was one of the options given to me as a good candidate. But, no one around me seems truly excited that I am going this route. My family just seems to be tolerating it, kinda in the same way they would tolerate a new fad. It's just depressing sometimes.

Anyway, I am definitly not going to give up until I see what all this entails. I have never worked in a hospital. The most medical experience I really have is where I work now-a PPO network repricing/auditing medical claims. So, I get the bills from the hospitals. Behind the scenes healthcare I guess.

Isn't there some sort of online "Nursing Personality Test"? Sure would love to see how I score..

I am going to print out all your links and the story of the Nursing Assistant at work. I look forward to reading them and won't let them scare me off!!:)

When you go to the GCC website, there is a site within the nursing site that has a link for the nurse assisting syllabi. You don't think I can just get what I need from here? I will go to the center at GCC when I take the NET.

Thanks JD!

JD...

Then you did not wait at all to get in? You applied in the spring for fall 04? Why did you put GCC as your first AND second choice? The advisor at GCC did tell me not to put anything down I was not willing to take (commute to). My choices will likely be the same as yours, depending on how much I like GCC NA in the fall. I have got a friend right now acting like PC is all that as well as Boswell. I hope I can stay in contact with you and get the inside scoop on that as well!! Where did you do your clinicals at for Nurse Assisting? Who was your instructor?

Hi Janice-

Don't be nervous, you'll do fine.....I did some caregiving for some elderly folk (baths, meals, dressing, oral care, etc....) and it really felt great. I was a Rad Tech (still licensed), and that just isn't the same as taking care of someone's needs for an extended period of time and making sure they are comfortable. Helping someone that really needs you is a great feeling, if you're that type of person I am sure you will excel. It's unfortunate, from what I hear, that RN's do less direct patient care, but we will still be caring for them and making sure their needs are met, I hear the good RNs will get in there and help the CNAs.

Don't be nervous-you'll do great.

Answer to your question: I am sure you can get the syllabus off of the GCC website, but you can not do the online hw assignment that is due the first day unless you log on to MIDAS. When it gets closer to starting time and you have your user ID and password you can log on to MIDAS and there will be email waiting for you there from Mark Stalzer or Georgette Howard. They are the two main instructors. They will let you know what you need to do, or have any announcements about your specific class (section #).

I put GCC as my first and second choice because I really wanted to go there because it's close by and I was familiar with it. I put the PartTime program at GCC as my first choice because it's only 22 months and you go all year with no semester breaks, but only 2 days per week, that would have allowed more time for work and family. My second choice was GCC fulltime days, which is the traditional 24 month, with semester breaks.

...............Georgette Howard and Mark Stalzer (GCC NA instructors) have tons of nursing experience between them. They are very knowledgable and they can make it interesting with stories from their career. There are also clinical instructors, I had Nancy. She was great. The program is great, just remember that you can't be late at all, or absent, and they aren't bluffing about the 76% or below, I'm living proof. Clinicals are done at Royal Oaks in Sun City and HealthSouth (I don't know if they still use them). They are both good places to do clinicals.

Is your friend going to PC now??? I had them down as a choice. So she's heard good things about Boswell???

Feel free to PM me with anymore questions (I don't know if they have a limit on how long the PMs can be on this website).

Good luck to you- you'll probably end up enjoying the NA training. Say Hi to Mark and Georgette for me. They probably won't remember me, so many go through their program.

Have a good one,
