Banner Health New Grad '18

Hi everyone!

I just recently accepted a position at Banner Boswell Medical Center for their Intermediate Care Unit (similar to PCU) floor. My tentative start date is in the middle of March, due to the fact that I have to endorse my CA license to AZ.

Is anyone here starting around the same time frame? Any advice as a new grad? And for those currently working at Banner Boswell or went through their new grad program, do you enjoy working there?

I work at Boswell in the Medical ICU - just finished my orientation and am now on my own as an RN! Boswell is definitely a geriatric hospital, but I have grown to love it. Right now we are super busy because of the snowbirds being here, but the summers can be pretty slow. It's an older hospital, so some things are a little weird, but you get used to it. PM me and I'd love to show you around the hospital! I was a CNA there before I became a nurse, so I'm familiar with every unit. Are you days or nights?

Hello everyone i have a quick question. Im currently in Block 4 now. With gods will if i pass and get my nclex date scheduled, can i consider applying to Banner at that time? Does Banner hire new grads if they have a pending test date or do i have to wait until i get the licence? Also, what is the salary like for new grad? I was told Mayo is the best overall career wise but Banner is my much preferred choice. Any help is appreciated thanks!

Mayo is super competitive with 500+ new grads applying for 30ish positions each cycle. They pay decent. Banner requires you to have your license number to apply. You can apply for dignity positions before you are licensed. And HonorHealth requires a license as well. Your best bet, is waiting until you have a license, or apply for Mayo and Dignity positions.

My classmates and I were able to apply to Banner's new grad in December when we graduated and we didn't even have a test date yet. Three of us were offered positions before we got our ATT also. When I applied, the job page stated if you do apply, it needs to be within 60 days of graduation and taking NCLEX.

My classmates and I were able to apply to Banner's new grad in December when we graduated and we didn't even have a test date yet. Three of us were offered positions before we got our ATT also. When I applied, the job page stated if you do apply, it needs to be within 60 days of graduation and taking NCLEX.

This must be new ish but good to know. It wasn't an option when I was waiting to test, but it's nice that it is now!

Does this mean to apply it needs to be no more than 60 days prior to graduation and no more than 60 days prior to NCLEX exam date... as in we need to have an exam date scheduled in order to apply?

No, you don't need to have an exam date scheduled. We applied in mid December, when we graduated(you can apply earlier, just depends on when you're planning to take NCLEX, like I was planning for roughly a month after graduation). I was called to schedule my interview around Christmas. It really didn't seem that strict for applying, I just think they don't want you applying like at the beginning of block 4 when it may be up in the air if you're going to graduate. I interviewed and was offered a job in the beginning of January when I still didn't have my ATT yet. The next action is to email/call when I get my license and I'll get to find out the orientation/start date. You can't schedule your exam until you get your ATT which will happen after state gets certification of completion processed from your school. It took 3 weeks for me to get my ATT (probably due to holidays) and I have a few classmates that STILL don't have their ATT due to the education piece not being processed even though they graduated.

One thing to keep in mind when you get your ATT is that it's only guaranteed they can offer you a test date within 45 days. All of my classmates a few years ago were getting their dates very close to the end of that 45 days. But what about half of us did is stalk the testin schedule page. As people change their dates or don't test for whatever reason, new sooner dates show up. A lot of us ended up testing about 2 weeks after getting our ATT. Just an option for those looking to take it right away.

Or go out of state to take NCLEX. That's what I did, and I took NCLEX the day after getting my ATT.
