Hi! I am a new DNP student. I am an NP with an MSN. Just wondering the types of projects other DNP students have done in the past so I can get an idea

What's your area of practice?

I work as an NP in an outpatient diabetes clinic. I do have some ideas of projects but am just wondering the types of projects others have done, so I can see if mine seems reasonable

Your school should have all the projects that have been completed bound in the library, and you are likely invited to attend the defenses that are ongoing each semester. You can also read the published papers that have come from capstone projects. Check pubmed. I know mine can be found there, as well as those of most of my friends/colleagues. Most of my classmates did succeed in publishing their morificecripts. That should give you a good idea.

Ok thanks! :)

Just finished my DNP project, "Sepsis: A Guide for Patients and Families". I wrote it as an ebook and donated it to the Sepsis Alliance. We'll see how the College of Nursing likes it.

How cool! What kind of clinical did you do for this? What do you hope to do with your degree once you graduate?

I also need a capstone project. I am currently in asthma, allergy and immunology but feel asthma stuff has been researched to death. I can't think of anything =(

DNP is all about outcomes measurement and implementation of evidenced based practices. Pick a specific population and then implement an intervention to improve outcomes (medication adherence, asthma control, decrease in ER visits, etc). You could make a measurement before and after to prove your intervention worked. There are so many people with asthma that you could still easily do it.

Hi,

I currently work in women's health/reproductive health and also need help deciding on what I should focus on. I was thinking about something on breast ca or how we automatically tx for chlamydia in males who c/o UTI sxs. Not sure if i'm in the right thinking frame here..... SOOOOO any help will be great to kinda hone in on my thinking... THANKS!!!

This is a challenge for me as well as I do not feel very creative. Anyone have ideas for a DNP project in pain or palliative medicine?

What if you were to do a project at an LTAC (Long Term Acute Care facility) and educate patients' families when patients are critical on ventilators or with terrible wounds, etc to see if it help if the patient didn't do well, in regards to allowing the patient to die with dignity or being made a DNP? So many patients are kept alive by artificial means for months just because families cannot make decisions that they never thought about before. It is a difficult area but well worthwhile when you are advocating for the patient.
