Just wondering how many different nursing jobs it took most of you to work before you found what you really liked and stayed with it.

I have been working in long term care since my graduation in Nov 03 and just resigned to work in acute care...well the director of nursing at the LTC facility blasted me for switching jobs and made me feel so bad about leaving. She said that it wasn't professional of me to leave a position so early. After graduation I really wasn't sure what I was really interested in and took the first job that was offered to me.

She blasted you because she does not want to loose you and she is envious because you are doing just what she wishes she could have done or could do right now and is afraid to make the move. You have your whole career ahead of you..she is limited now due to her lack of recent acute care experience...Good Luck...Personally I don't like to leave a postion in less then a yr-but I left one after 5 shifts to accept my dream job several years ago...Just leave on good terms-don't burn your bridges....

I am going throught the same transition, but not really by chioce. I was displaced from my position at a long term care facility, and have been transfered to the med/surg floor at the hospital. I am starting in a few weeks and I am nervous of the change because I feel like I may have forgoten alot from my education. Keep me posted on how you are finding the acute care experience and best of luck to you.
