Are the two parts of the CNA test on the same day?

Published

Hello! I need to know if the two parts of the CNA test are given on the same day or not. The last day of this course is May 8, 2012 and students are allowed to take the test after 30-45 days the last day of class. The problem is that my husband who is in the Army is going to receive orders between May-September 2012 and I don't want to waste my time and money taking a course for which I won't be able to sit for a test.

Also, would I be able to take the class and test in another state? Would that be possible?

Thanks for all the help you can provide me with! Thanks!!

I do not think you can take a class and test in two different states. But you can get reciprocity once you are certified and be certified in a new state. When I took the states exam we had the written test then came back a little while later for the skills test all in one day.

If you have all your paperwork in order you should be able to sign up to test as soon as your course ends and choose the first avaliable date. Talk to your instructor and ask them to double check so you can express mail your paperwork to the DOH or even drop it off in person. Not everyone gets the date they choose but most people in my class did. Oh and I am certified through WA state

Good luck!

Best way to find out is to contact the state you are PCSing to, their department of community health or whatever handles things like that. CNA is something handled by the individual states and their rules seem to vary, Im not aware of any national certification or license that is accepted by most states, which is what you have for RNs and EMTs.

Sounds like a few states dont even require a CNA course before taking the test, you can just try to test out. Other states might not even require any sort of testing or training to work as an aide, although its probably something most places prefer or require before hiring.

If you pass your CNA exam and get your state certification before moving, then you would have to look into reciprocity. The State you move to might require you to retake their state test, again, the rules vary by state.

I know is been a while but I wanted to thank you for taking the time and respond to my question! Here is a little update: We were allowed to stay here but I got their response too late as I had to drop my CNA class thinking I would be moving to another state. Now that I will be here at Scott AFB for more than 2 years I will take the CNA during the Summer and I will apply to their nursing program again but for the year 2013. Thank you again!
