How long does it take you to do a head-to-toe assessment?

Are you not nervous or stressed at clinical while the other students all seem to be nervous or stressed? Does the fact that you're not nervous or stressed, stress you, because you feel like you obviously doing something wrong if you don't feel stressed or overwhelmed?

My mind gets blank and fuzzy when I get up on the floor, no matter how prepared I am. I think it's an anxiety things. I also start shaking when my instructor watches me do things....I am getting better with each day, but it's sooooo stressful!! The first day she practically had to push me into the patients room. :chuckle

I know what you are saying, you are stressing cause you are not stressing. I expiriance the same thing. My classmates will be struggling to do their first assessment on their patients and I am already done. I wonder "Am I missing something or is there something I have left undone?" Ultimately I started asking my clinical instructor for more patients to care for. When she agreed to that I knew I must be doing everything right as she looks at EVERYTHING we do.

Hang in there and good luck!

A&P came easy to me. I finished the class with a 99.5 average. Nursing Theory is not coming easy, though. It sounds like so much common sense but when I am faced with more than one reasonable answer, I really have to think hard... and sometimes that hurts! :chuckle I'm still getting an A so far, but we've only had 2 quizzes! We'll see if it continues. I will continue to work my butt off and strive to do my best, no matter what.

Yes... I know exactly what you are saying .... I was so anticipating the absolute worst... Don't get me wrong I am not saying its easy and I have no social life and I am studying and writing papers daily ....But , I am OK.... I am getting great grades and am keeping up and (so far) understanding everything .... I have never worked in the field and I kept hearing and reading here about the stress and I was actually quite scared.... I am a single Mom and I work 20-25 hours weekly and I still have time for my boyfriend (not as much obviously) ..... But so far, and I am almost afraid to say, so far so good...... I keep thinking that maybe I am missing something and in fact am not doing well and its all going to hit me..... I hope that I am wrong in that instance....

I'm starting to feel much more comfortable with the assessements. I still have a lot to learn, but it's getting better. Don't stress over these things, your a student and learning things. It will take time and lots of practice before we will become comfortable with these skills.

Not now i feel the same way. i study and study KNOW the information then i take the test and i usually leave the questions blank that i don't know right off the bat then go back to them. but then i am just concentrating on each one for to long....i start reading way to far into the question and end up getting them wrong and everyone else in the class gets them right. i feel like a complete dumb^&*. i just took a test last night on physical assessment and i know of four questions that i got wrong that were just stupid common sense questions. its hard for me becuase i am used to getting A's and B's and now i am getting C's. i am going to keep studying though, i do really really well in lab so i will just keep studying and try to quit reading into those questions darnit!:)

I used to be a biology major, it comes easy to me. Because of this pathophysiology is easier for me to understand than it is for others in my class. Everyone around me complains that class is so hard I feel as if I'm missing something. So I study the fine details of what's going on and read way too far into questions which results in me getting them wrong. I hate that. When I do a head to toe assessment I always think I'm doing it wrong but then, I feel that way with a majority of my clinical duties. I doubt myself too much.

ME TO. in my med/surg class. it all seems so easy but then you start reading to far into the question and next thing you know you are totally confused and end up putting the wrong answer...get done with the test and 15 minutes later you realize what you should have put. frusterating i agree. lab is easy compared to theory! LOL. anyway hang in there and i will to!:p
