I was wondering if anyone from Oklahoma is on this board, and if so, where you attend nursing school.

I live in Enid, OK. I attend classes at Northern Oklahoma college and Northwestern OSU. They both have classes here in Enid. I am going for the Bachelors in Nursing. Depending on the classes you already have it may be almost as fast to get a bachelors as to get an Associates degree. There is only about a semester`s difference between what I need for the BSU vs. the AAS. Check it out with your advisor. Of course I already had almost 2 years of classes done before I decided to switch to nursing. I like to think I`m well rounded:-)

OSU OKC has the lowest (they've recently changed their program and I guess they haven't found their feet yet). OU is not bad, it's somewhere in the middle.

That is good to know...where did you find this info? I guess I need to compare schools a bit more. I had always heard OU was a really really good school though so I dont know! LOL

Marilyn,
I went to Salary.com and found that most RN's, just a regular staff RN, is about $40,000 a year average for my zip code.

Originally posted by Just_wonderingHow do you like OkCCC? I'm attending rose state right now, and I'm STILL trying to decide where I'll attend nursing school. It's a toss up between OSU-OKC, Rose State, or OKCCC. Let me know how hard it is! Good to see another okie on board!
I don't really know how it compares to other schools. For my class there were 300 applicants, 55 got in, 5 dropped before the semester ended, at least 1 failed, That's what I heard anyway. The first semester had a lot of hoops to jump through and it seems that professors made things harder than they needed to be, a weeding out processes some have said. THis semester is wonderful, no more stupid stuff. People have told me its a good program, last semester was so chaotic and unorganized at times I have decided that those people who shared wonderful comments with me, though they had great intentions, didn't know what they were talking about. but honestly, at this moment, I enjoy the school, I really like the class size. A big problem for me is that there isn't any flexibility with the class times. its only offered once so if you have a picky work schedule or problems finding childcare, you may want to look elsewhere. Hope that helps.
Also, I have heard from a board member from an area hospital, that hospitals are paying new grads $16 an hour.

Unless you work per diem without benefits or agency that is a dream. A new grad. staff nurse at $16 is average for most hospitals I know. 5 years experience brings you about $18 in most hospitals in a FT position.
We salary compare with other OK hospitals at OK.Organization of Nurse Executives (OONE) and stay current with pay rates out there.
