Are there any hospitals that will pay for nursing school?

Published

I'm a Patient Care Technician and I want to become a nurse. Are there any hospitals in the DFW, Texas area that will pay for Nursing schools in exchange for that you work for a couple of years at that hospital?

Someone please let me know. Thank you so much.

Look into tuition reimbursement. Typically you must have worked for the organization for a set amount of time before becoming eligible, you must maintain a certain FTE while in school, you must pay upfront and are reimbursed after passing the class, and some even won’t reimburse for a C grade. After your last reimbursement, you are then required to work for them for a set amount of time or have to pay back. At least that’s been my experience.

If you’re looking for someone to pay the cost up front without meeting eligibility criteria in exchange for a job, you likely won’t find it.

Many hospitals claim to pay and back in the stone age, when I was in school a lot of our class had help from the local hospital. Now though, I've had so many nurses say that it's a listed benefit, but hard to get reimbursement. Like it could be added to your retirement package hard...

Call HR of hospitals where you would like to work and ask.

Very few will cover 100% of the cost, but most of the good ones have tuition reimbursement up to around $5200 per year (the maximum allowed by law I believe) after you have worked there for a year, requiring up to two years work commitment from the time of graduation. Parkland hospital in Dallas also has a program you can apply for sponsored by an anonymous donor for a scholarship that covers pretty much 100% of nursing school for those selected. It is competitive and application based. You also have to have worked there for a year and be in good standing (no write-ups) to submit the application.
