Hi-
I am just wondering if any of the hospitals (HFH, St. Johns, Crittenten or WB) are hiring grad nurses?
Is there really a shortage? I am so terrified that there will be no jobs when I graduate. I graduate in May 2010..I have my MBA but so what!:-)
Thanks
If you don't mind me asking -- what is the starting pay in this area? I don't graduate until Dec 2011, but hope to start my career here in MI, before moving out of state. I'm just wondering if MI pay is comparable to other states... thanks! :)
Around $24...
For those that already have jobs, did you have your license when you applied?

I started applying for jobs in October, two months before graduation. I received my license # the first week in March and finally got a phone call for an interview 3 wks later. I think the license gave me a boost.
I was a new grad when I was hired at DMC, but was just waiting for my board date to come through. DMC policy for new grads is they need to obtain their license within 90 days from hire. I'm still waiting on my license to come through, but thats mostly because I actually got my license in NY where I am from and am having it endorsed here in Michigan. Pay at DMC is 23ish for new nurses...which is good enough for me.
There was a slight need for PACU nurses, but I also had a small amount of critical care experiencing from both my precept and an internship last summer; both in ICU environments. So far though since my hire, all the other ones have pretty much been experienced nurses. I also have 9 years of military background, so that helps a bit when it comes to maturity level and experience professionally.
