I have been traveling for a year now and its getting tough. I work med-surg and there are not many choices out there. Is anyone else finding it the same? All these companies want you to sign up and then they cant find you anything you want! They all say it has not been this bad - ever. Is this true?

It seems like it's either feast or famine!

I have had more offers this week than I have had in the entire past year.

My current assignment can't get done fast enough for me to pick another.

Best of luck to all of you out there looking.

I agree the market is a little tighter and a little more competitive than a year or so ago...but I have had no problem with getting offers and interviews. (I do Med/Surg, Ortho, and Telemetry and I have my ACLS) I have been traveling for 5 years. I finished a contract at the end of August and took some time off...which I usually do. I have been emailed and my phone ringing constantly to come to work and I have been turning down possibilities. I usualy work with multiple companies...may the best man win. I was submitted for 2 jobs right away when I informed them I was ready to work again. I got passed over for one and got an interview with the other and hired right away. I leave next week for my new assignment. I also work only in Compact States and that limits where I will go. I have had no difficulty personally in finding work.

If you have had difficulty I suggest working with multiple agencies...I find that agencies/agents that find you work once tend to be able to find you good contracts again in the future.

If you need a couple of good agents/agencies to work with send me a private message and I will put you in contact with a couple I have had good success with.

Thanks

PS, I have been contacted for multiple possible placements in TX, NM, AZ, and CO and one in KY, and if you are willing to go to CA (not for me) they have been begging me to go there.

I am interested in traveling and would like your suggestion on good agents/agencies to work with; however, I am a new comer to all nurses and cannot sent private messages yet... could you pm me instead?

Me too, me too! :-) I am also interested in traveling and would like your suggestion on good agents/agencies to work with. And I am also a new comer to all nurses and cannot sent private messages yet... could you pm me instead?

Thanks!

I agree with u about the attitude and flexibility. I've been considering travel nursing, but am confused as to which agency has the best reputation. Once I filled out the forms online, I've had agencies from all over calling me....so how do I know who to sign up with? I'm leary about up and quiting my present job to try traveling, but I'm just not satisfied where I am. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks

Highway hypodermics has a list of travel companies they rate with syringes (cute) it really helps to see what companies really offer. alot of the companies I hadnt even heard of till I saw the list. They are not the ones that pay to be first on search engines and splash their ads on nursing magazine pages but I guess they dont have to. I thought this was common knowledge but there seems to be many nurses on here that are confused about the many companies to pick from. FYI some companies are actually one company with many smaller departments that masquerade as separate agencies so it makes it even more confusing. Good luck.
