Hello everyone,

I am in the process of applying to APU ELM program for Spring of 2019. I was just looking to connect to other applicants. I will be applying to the main campus. If anyone has any questions feel free to post, I have found the older forums from previous cohorts to be very helpful when looking for advice.

Hi there! I'm one of those applicants that didn't get in for Fall 2018. I'm reapplying for spring 2019 because I like the fact APU gives you a BSN along the way to getting your masters and FNP. I am also waiting to hear back from 3 other schools and I have an interview at USD in February.

Which campus are you applying to :D

Hi Everyone!

I applied a few days ago to the SD campus, keeping my fingers crossed! I've also been reading previous posts and am curious how many spots for Spring 2019 have already been assigned.

Best of luck to everyone!

@aschreiman I applied to all the campuses for spring 2019 but I put Azusa then IE then SD for my order of preference. What about you??

@hca4 I'm also worried about that

I applied to Main Campus, Azusa. I didn't see an option to select more than one campus.

@somedayfnp Good luck with your USD interview! I was also thinking about applying to their program as well. Do you know if it's as competitive as Azusa?

Also- do you mind sharing your stats? Do you know if most applicants have volunteer and/or previous medical experience? Sorry for all the questions, Azusa is the first program I've applied to so I'm definitely new to this process.

Thank you!! I've heard San Diego is more competitive than Azusa actually cuz they only take students one time a year and Azusa accepts students 3 times a year. But San Diego's program offers a CNL and then you have to apply to their FNP program, which is why I like Azusa better

Also for stats, I have a BA from UC Santa Barbara (3.3 undergraduate gpa). My last 60/90 are something like 3.75, prereqs (science and nonscience) 4.0, and overall like 3.55.

I have been a cna since dec 2016 and I've worked two cna jobs (one post acute care/rehab; the other for an agency that supplied understaffed nursing homes). I also did a 100 volunteership with kaiser and I job shadowed for years in the hospital (both my parents are physicians). I also lead a team on the campus where I took my prereqs for 2 years and we did Campus health promotion (organized blood drives, health fairs, workshops, etc).

I applied to 6 programs: U of Hawaii, USD, USF, Azusa, western, and Samuel Merritt. So far I'm waitlisted at Hawaii, I got rejected from azusa, and I have an interview at San Diego. I haven't heard back from western, USF, or Samuel Merritt yet. I know other people have heard back from western so I'm assuming I didn't get in but we shall see

@hca4 did you just apply to Azusa? Or are you applying to other programs?

@somedayfnp Wow, your stats are great! Congrats on all your hard work. I'm shocked you didn't get into Azusa, you seem to be very qualified. Did they give you any feedback on why you weren't selected? Is there something besides a high GPA, volunteering and medical experience they are looking for or prioritizing? Did you complete every prerequisites before applying?

I plan to start volunteering soon but do not have any medical experience. My undergrad GPA is 3.7 and my science prerequisites are a 4.0. I still have two more prerequistes that I'll be finishing this semester.

After reading this forum I'm getting nervous! I want to stay in San Diego but there are only so many graduate options. I'm considering applying to USD but the program is extremely expensive. I also plan to apply to CSU-San Marcos's accelerated BSN, they also accept for three terms and I think are less competitive than Azusa.

@hca4

Actually, a program representative from Azusa called me after I received my letter just to let me know that under normal circumstances I would have been accepted, but they just had like 3 times the normal amount of applications for Fall 2018. He encouraged me to reapply so that's why I'm reapplying. Plus I really like Azusa's program.

I finished all the prereqs except ochem/biochem, which I'm taking this semester.

Your GPA is amazing! My undergrad wasn't that great, so it pulled my overall gpa down. That's awesome though!! You've definitely got a shot with your GPA

I do recommend volunteering or job shadowing if you can just cuz it gives you such a good head start at breaking into the medical field.
