appollo college

Published

Hello all, I'm new to the las vegas area and I'm applying to CSN for nursing, but someone told me about Appollo college and that they offer a nursing program. I wanted to know if anyone has heard of this and would it be better to just attend CSN?

Thanks

Let me be honest, If you have money Apollo college is tour best route. It will cost about $46,000 then less with grants and whatever you qualify for. I currently attend Apollo and compared to CSN, the teaching cannot be beat. If you take the CSN route, there will be a waiting list once you complete just the basic pre req's, that waiting list could be as short as 6months or as long as 1year+

i graduated for CCSN (when that was what it was called.. back then ), i really don't know that much about apollo, but 702 must have graduated from there, so he knows.

i loved CCSN or now CSN and loved it, yes many applied and few were chosen ( when i applied 400 applied and 100 chosen) , i did their LPN to RN bridge and i loved that program. the teachers were great and they are tried and true for boards.. and less expensive than the private colleges. i was a LPN for many years and thought the bridge program would be boring , but the teachers made it interesting and i just loved the school. their NCLEX pass rate is very good.... they start training you from day 1 to take boards..

i passed boards first try with 75 questions ... so did many of my classmates......

keep us posted on which school you choose, CSN is awesome and i would encourge anyone to take that program , it's one of the best in the state... take care

I am currently going into 5th semester (out of a total of 6) at Apollo college. I am not sure who wrote the first article or what semester he is in, but I think we are having different experiences.

It is a good deal. The program is less than 2 years including prereqs. The school goes through administration extremely fast. For this last semester we had 4 teachers for OB and 3 for Peds. It makes testing difficult when each instructer teaches something different. We do not receive our schedule until a couple days or the day of the new semester. The instructers openly say other instructers are wrong in their teaching. If you choose this school, know that you will teach yourself the information. If I had the choice to go to Apollo or a 4 year college, I would still choose Apollo.

When I was reading your post I thought you were talking about my school! I think they are all like that to a degree. Complete disorganized chaos. Alot of us in my class have this saying that our program is simply the "ticket to take the test". The only valuable part of our program has been the clinicals. The rest is primarily self teaching. My goal in life is now to come up with a better and more consistent way to teach nursing curriculum. First thing I'd do is get rid of care plans. It makes more sense to teach the ABCs in understandable language such as "if O2 sats are low intervene by...." than Ineffective Breathing Pattern aeb...r/t...." I mean come on now! And the way they skim through clinical skills in labs! Here, watch this video...now do the skill...oh and you have to put in extra lab time if you actually want to practice it...sorry, just venting. I've just never seen such utter confusion and chaos before in a curriculum and it seems to be so widespread in nursing. Wonder why that is.

I have heard that UNLV is more book oriented and have easier times passing the exit exams. Once in clinical, when I was in first semester I worked with UNLV students from third semester and one did not know what digoxin was for. We are allowed a lot of hands on esperience but most of the time we do not even have to try it out in the lab first. I am not sure if it is better to know the books or clinical information since differrent schools focus the attention of students in different direction. I guess I dont care as long as I pass boards in 6th semester.

CSN does not have a waiting list. I finished my pre-reqs and the following semester I started Nursing School. I did not have to wait, and neither did many of my classmates, it all depends on how you did in your pre-reqs. But that's just FYI. ;)

And in all fairness, there is no way you can compare the teaching of the CSN instructors to the Apollo instructors unless you have graduated from both programs. It could be simply a matter of personal preference, and in that case, to each his own.

i would think twice before trying apollo. i went to the NV nursing board meeting last month and the board officials disapprove their new director of nursing education. they even warned the school that they might not get their accreditation. and if you graduate from an unaccredited nursing school, you might not get a job and you'll be wasting your time, money and most of all, HARD WORK.

i went to ccsn ( when it was called that ) and i went through the LPN to RN bridge and i loved it.. the teachers are awesome and the clinicals were very well organized.... no csn does not have a waiting list ...

i have never been to appollo but know nurses who have graduated from there... and they say it was fine for them.... unless i attended that school i will not give an opinion... i do know their pass rate for nclex was 64% ( yikes ) ... and they are having problems with accredaition... thats why their students have to take 360 hours of precpetorship .. before thay can take boards... when csn only has 10 -12 hour shifts preceptor

CSN is tried and true for boards.. the teachers are awesome and you will know your material for boards... i passed w/ 75 questions first try..... they have a NCLEX pass rate of 88%..

you have to choose what you want .... what is best for you.... take care and keep us posted....

oh i posted twice on this thread... sorry .... don't mean to repeat myself....lol

if you're thinking of going to apollo, you might as well try university of southern nevada instead (they have been around longer than any other private school in the area, so, chances are, they'll be around forever?). . . i mean if you have the $$$$ to spend.

however, csn is still the best choice and unlv would be 2nd. i was thinking of going to unlv but i'm about 3+ more classes short and really have no time to spare with working on more pre-reqs, plus with how their program is structured, there's no way i can work @ all. so, thank god, i got accepted for csn nursing for spring 2009! now, i can breathe a little better . . . . instead of worrying so much, the relief of sigh is just amazing!! :wink2: :nurse: csn nursing department just made my christmas and quite possibly new years!! .... :yeah::yeah: :bowingpur :nurse: :yeah:. . . . kris.
