Hi! Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program? Last year I applied and wasn't accepted. I believe they accepted around 12%. They had 70 spaces down from 90 the previous year.
I have work experience as a 6th grade teacher and working for a wellness office with Chicago Public Schools, but I do not have any direct healthcare experience.
I'm considering a career change but am not yet set on my timeline - I am weighing the benefits of an Accelerated BSN vs Master's Entry.
I have been accepted to an ABSN program at Loyola University of Chicago (~500 applications, 60 spots) and was wondering about UCLA, though it seems extremely competitive.
I worked for an outpatient transplant center for a year and a half as an admin asst where I interacted with patients a lot and interact with physicians and nurses on a constant basis. Throughout undergrad I also volunteered to lead various health workshops for underserved populations. Is that sufficient experience? Or is it recommended to still do some volunteer work in a hospital?

I'd say it's pretty important. I don't think there's anybody without volunteer/work experience who got in. At UCLA's info session, the advisor said it was important. That being said, there's probably usually at least one or two people who get in without any.
