Applying for Sacramento State ASBSN Fall 2009

U.S.A. California

Published

I just wanted to open up this thread to see if anyone else is applying for Sacramento State's ASBSN program (set to start in Fall 2009)? I'm currently waiting to see if I'm one of the lucky 20 who will start in the fall.

Apparently, the program lost its' funding this year so it will be combined with the generic 2 year program (which is still much cheaper than Samuel Merritt's tuition). I'd rather start in the summer like in previous years, but in this kind of economy, I guess it's still good that the program wasn't eliminated entirely.

I am currently in the CSUS ABSN program. One suggestion I can give you that our class did was to create a Yahoo group for our class. CSUS will eventually create a blackboard group for you to communicate amongst yourself once school starts but getting to that point is a nightmare. Create a Yahoo group and give the school the link to it. They will send out an email to everyone in your class inviting them to join. It will really help you organize yourselves. Also, it helped us during the program to post files and study guides that we didn't necessarily want posted on official school servers.

BTW, while Carmichael isn't far from CSUS it can be far from the hospitals so that is something you might want to think about (whoever was asking....)

Thanks for the suggestion Dude_nurse. The yahoo group sounds like a great idea!

However, I'm still a little hesitant to create one now though, as it seems to me like the 20 students from the "ASBSN" program who are stating in the fall are going to be merged with the regular 2-year generic BSN program; unlike in your cohort which was exclusively second bachelors students. I'm thinking it may be more beneficial to include the 60 generic BSN students starting in the Fall in the group as well, especially if we'll be taking the same classes together. I think when we get an email from Sac State next week regarding registration things will get a little more clear.

BTW, how are you liking the ASBSN program so far? Since you started last summer, you must have reached the 1 year mark already. Do you have any suggestions or advice for us entering the program in a few months? Thanks!

Yes. Kiss you social time/friends/family good-bye for the next two years. The BS projects/group projects, busy work that has nothing to-do with being a nurse never stops at Sac State.

Hey guys,

I got the email today with the link to the orientation website. I just wanted to let anyone interested know, in case they are expecting it and do not receive it.

hi guys,

i was wondering how you applied to the program at sac state, because i saw on their website that they're not offering it right now. so did you apply to the generic bsn brogram? or is there a different process when youre doing the asbsn? thanks!

I didn't apply for either but I was a student at Sac State and they are no longer offering the ABSN program.

They now only offer the 2 year BSN program.

We were told in November that the accelerated program was being absorbed into the regular two year BSN program. We applied for twenty seats in the fall and twenty seats in spring. The program is therefore no longer accelerated due to budget cuts. I beleive students with bachelor's degrees are still welcome to apply to the regular BSN program.

So to be clear we did apply using a different process. We took the GRE for example instead of the TEAS. But, it seems we are the last group who will be admitted under those different standards.

I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with the night clinicals for Sac State at UC Davis. I signed up for clinical group #8, which has a clinical from 6:30-10pm on Monday and one from 5-10 on Tuesdays. I understand that theres lots of prep work to do before clinicals, but I'm not sure what to expect with the clinical being broken up into two sections like mine.

Also, following Dude_nurse's suggestion, I've created a yahoo group so we can further get acquainted and organize ourselves once school starts in August. He mentioned that a yahoo group would be useful for posting study guides and other files that will help us get through the frenzy of nursing school. Feel free to join and spread to other allnurses threads regarding CSUS Fall 2009 nursing too!

hey everyone; sorry for the missing link; I didn't realize posting it was a TOS violation. PM or email me if you want it now, but I've sent an email out to the program administration and hopefully it will be forwarded to everyone soon.

Hi,

Does csus require letters of rec to those who applied for the ABSN? I looked all over the website and could not find the answer.

Thanks

Hi discostew,

CSUS did not require letters of rec for their ABSN program, but they did ask us for the emails/telephone numbers of three references. Unfortunately, due to the California financial crisis, the ABSN program is no more and has been absorbed into the regular 2 year BSN program instead of being it's own 1.5 year program.

However, it is my understanding that the BSN program is still accepting 2nd bachelors students. However, they require the TEAS and not the GRE that we took. I don't think the BSN program requires letters of rec, but you may need to present documentation for some of their "optional criteria" points like volunteering in a health care setting, being bilingual, etc.
