Applying to nursing program after grad school dismissal- advice needed!

Published

I have an unusual question. I am applying for an ADN program and I'm not sure how to address my academic background.

I have a Bachelor's degree, and my undergraduate GPA was high. However, I attempted grad school (a physical therapy doctorate program), and was academically dismissed. I didn't have a physics background at all and received a few C's in biomechanics-related classes. The program dismisses students for grades below a B. I did do well in most classes, and my pathophysiology/ pharmacology professor is writing me a recommendation.

How do I address this on my ADN application? Do I even need to address graduate coursework? I am really worried that this will look like a scarlet-letter. I am committed to a career in health care and I think I would make a very good nurse. Any advice would be appreciated!

Why would you go for your ADN and not a BSN? Don't understand that. They will probably ask you WHY you decided to switch career moves and all you have to say is that you found that you weren't interested in being a DPT but rather wish to be a nurse. In all honesty, though, they will probably not even bat an eye at it.

Thanks for the reply. I want to go for my ADN so I can start working, and plan to complete a higher degree later on. I have almost half of the credits for the ADN program, so I can complete the degree part-time in two years. The BSN program is at a different school and is 60K (!!!) more.

To be honest, even in my area where they were ADN friendly, they no longer higher associates degrees. You should do an accelerated BSN. Or you're still going to be twiddling your thumbs for a while looking for a job.
