Hi, RN-n-themakn. Congrats on getting your AA!
I am also applying for the August 2012 program. You do need to attach your HESI scores to the application.
I calculated your pre-req GPA with the info you gave and it came out to 3.1 (it's not rounded) meaning you will get 7 points+1 point for being a Broward resident = 8 points.
I think you have a very good chance! I've heard of people getting in with less points than that. Also, if you did HOSA in high school, you get an extra 5 points.
I hope this helped :)
Mac 1105 is college algebra. Can you tell me how you calculated the gpa including the lab. I am not sure why it posted my grades so closed together but to make sure my grades are a&p1B lab B, a&p2 B lab C, enc 1101 C, chem B lab A. I did not take HOSA in school only a Broward county resident.
Omg I turned in my application today. It is so weird that I have good grades but was only awarded 3 points. I just don't understand
Oh yeah I see, I read them wrong since they were all stuck together.
The pre-req GPA is calculated like this:
A = 4 points, B = 3 points, C = 2 points
A&P1 B = 3 points x 3 credits = 9
LAB B = 3 points x 1 credit = 3
A&P2 B = 3 points x 3 credits = 9
LAB C = 2 points x 1 credit = 2
CHM B = 3 points x 3 credits = 9
ENC C = 2 points x 3 credits = 6
9+3+9+2+9+6= 38 / 14(total credits) = 2.714 GPA
Points start from 16 for 4.0 GPA and keep going down.. 15 for 3.9, 14 3.8, 13 3.7, 12 3.6, 11 3.5, 10 3.4, 9 3.3, 8 3.2, 7 3.1, 6 3.0, 5 2.9, 4 2.8, 3 2.7, 2 2.6, 1 2.5
Since you are a Broward resident they should add a point making it 4 points
So considering my Hesi scores what is your opinion of my chances of getting accepted.

I am thinking of applying to Broward College's nursing program for May 2013 (IF they offer it next year.) But I have about a million and one questions and getting answers from BC is difficult enough and proving even more difficult since I am currently living in Tallahassee. So if anyone can help, I would GREATLY appreciate the help!!
These questions pretain to the "Additional General Education Courses Required"
1) I know that to apply to BC, you need to have all your pre-reqs done. But what about the "additional general education courses." When are we supposed to complete those courses? Our first nursing semester? or after acceptance but before beginning nursing?
2) Regarding the additional courses, from what I understand, we must take MTB1370 and Pharmacology at BC. Is this correct?
3) It also states we need a "Humanities with writing credit" and a "social and behavioral science course." What are some example of courses that would fulfill this requirement. I have taken Humanities I & II at TCC, as well as Marriage & Family(SYG2430,) Human Growth & Develoment (DEP2004,) and Intro to Psych (PSY2012.) Would these courses work?
4) Also, IF you do have some of the 'additional education requirements' (not just pre-reqs) done, will that be averaged into your gpa when deciding admission points?
This question is in regard to the pre-req courses:
5) Concerning CHM1032 Chemistry for health science: I previously attended FIU and took CHM1032 but it was called 'Chemistry and Society.' Will this course fulfill my pre-req? (I know I must speak to an advisor but I'm just looking for opinions and if anyone has dealt with a problem like this) If not, I have also taken General Chemistry I and II, will these work?
6)Concerning the points you receive from your gpa, I know they include the pre-reqs (enc, anat I+lab, anat 2+lab, chm) but when calculating your pre-req gpa, will they also INCLUDE microbio + lab, humanities, social/behavioral courses since I have already completed them?
HESI Exam
7) Can this exam be taken anywhere or does it have to be done at BC? I am currently in Tallahassee and can take it at TCC. I would almost prefer they do NOT accept the scores, so that I can practice up here ($34 tally vs $60 south fl.) If this is the case, will they look down on me for this? and if I take it at BC, do they look down on students who take the exam 3+ times?
Sorry about the million questions! Living 7+ hours away prevents me from going in and talking to an advisor. I do plan on coming down for mothers day weekend and plan on going to BC then but would really appreciate if anyone can help with my questions now.
My current pre-req gpa is 3.57 and I would be a Broward resident. So I am assuming I will have about 12 pts.
Ahhhh, that reminds me, one more question!! According to their requirements website, it states "In the event of a tie, students will be given one point for the completetion of each college-level, general education course that is required toward the ASN degree at BC. In the event the tie remains, the point will be awarded to the student with the highest grades in the required courses."
Does this mean the "additional general education courses?" like micro + lab, humanities, social/behavoiral science? Is it one point per course? and are these points calculated AFTER your original gpa points, when they are reviewing applications.
Also, is it possible to take the Math course, MTB1370 BEFORE applying to the nursing program? or AFTER applying but before starting the program?
Again, sorry and thank you!!

Hi everyone! I am looking to apply for Jan 2013 start. I have all the sciences and the labs done with all A's, and I still have to take the healthcare core class and the Hesi.I do have a question about the ENC1101 prereq that I'll need to talk to an adviser about. I have a Bachelor's degree in journalism from a university, and I was told when I was a freshman there that I didn't have to take ENC1101 since I had a high enough score on my ACT test to move on to ENC1102. I didn't get credit for ENC1101 but kind if clepped out of it. So I ended up doing that, but I'm wondering if I can get credit for ENC1102 in place of the ENC1101 prereq? I don't want to have to take ENC1101 to apply, especially since I have do many writing/English courses I've already taken! Anyone have any idea about this? Thanks!

Hello I submitted my application yesterday for fall 2012 generic RN program. I'm so nervous. Can someone please tell me my GPA for the requirements. Because I have no clue. I have B's in everything except for microbiology, I got an A.I I never bought a single book. I'm a slacker and getting B's without studying was good a couple of semesters ago but now I'm freaking out?? I got an overall HESI score of 82%.
I don't live in broward or have HOSA credit, so that's already 6 points less. I live in doral and I applied to the south campus. Also I'm taking statistic along with enc 1102 and history for the bsn this summer at mdc since I have financial aid for summer semester. Is it too much ?
I'm freaking out it's only been 1 day since I sent in my application and the suspense is killing !
When you say you have b's in everything are you talking bout A&p 1 with lab, A&p 2 with lab chemistry and Enc1101? I got the same overall score for Hesi. Are you taking those classes for summer A or summer B? I completed understand where you are coming from about freaking out. I turned in my app at Friday and I still check the website everyday lol.
Hey cmf08, I can't answer all of your questions but I can try to help at least a little.
The math course and pharm are only taken during the first semester of the nursing program.
Microbiology (MCB2010) and the lab are not calculated with the pre-req GPA and is not needed for admission into the program. However, it is needed to graduate and not recommended to take it during the program. You can take it before or after (I would do it before)
For humanities & behavioral science I took REL2300 (World Religions) and PSY2012 but I know for humanities there was a HUGE list of options, I'm sure yours would work but I would check with an adviser just to be sure. These are also not calculated in your pre-req GPA.
For the HESI exam, you should email [email protected] She answered all of my HESI questions very quickly every time I asked.
With your 3.57 GPA you should get in the program with no problem. Good luck with everything! :)
