Applying for NCLEX in CA

Published

Hi everyone,

I am a registered nurse in the Philippines and just arrived here in New Jersey a couple of months ago. I now have a green card and an SSN. As I've checked on different forums about NCLEX applications regarding the state of NJ, I found out that the BON here requires a lot ot compared to other states. Examples are the CES from CGFNS, passing the TOEFL exam and submit the passing result to the CGFNS to be evaluated, Validation of License form that needs to be sent to PRC and then PRC must sign it and then send it back to CGFNS.

I just reviewed the requirements of the BON in California and it was simple. They don't even require services from the CGFNS and TOEFL. Now, I wanna ask you my fellow nurses (who I know have gone through a lot just to be there in your positions) if it would be advisable for me to make an application for NCLEX exam in CA snd if I am fortunate to pass it can I just then request a RECIPROCITY of LICENSE to my state here in NJ? Will they still require me to pass those requirements that were aforementioned? I am really taking into consideration of not making an application here in NJ for the NCLEX primarily because of the TOEFL which would cost more time and money.

I really am in need of your advice. Thank you all.

Yes if you applied to NJ for a license you would still need to meet the requirements set out by the NJ BON.

Suggest you check with the BON because we have had other members post when endorsing they still had to meet requirements like English exams

Agree with Silverdragon. The instructions for RN endorsement in the NJ BON website does not mention anything about IEN's so it makes it look like IEN's don't need the CES and TOEFL if endorsing a license from another US state to NJ. But do check with the BON first because the information may just not have been posted appropriately.

Thanks a lot for this link, sir. They really didn't mention anything about the CES and TOEFL in this forms. Nevertheless, I guess I have do this in the traditional way and just follow all the steps provided by the NJ BON. I just hope I get through all of these processes smoothly. Anyway, thanks a lot and regards to SILVERDRAGON and the others who replied, KUDOS! =)
