Applying to Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing?

Published

I applied to Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing..took the NET and received great scores:yeah: and now, waiting to set-up interview with school.

Anywone else applying and waiting to hear back? Anyone already go through their interview? I'm interested in waiting with other applicants!

This is my top choice and I'm ready to be accepted!! :D:D

Onedayanurse,

You are so sweet, thanks. It would be a dream come true if I do well. So are you saying after I am done with my test just walk in and speak to Ms.* without an appointment or me given an invitation? I would feel really stupid if I failed the TEAS and wanting in and they tell me no way Jose!!LOL

Hi Nancy,

When your finished with the test your scores come up on the screen..Ask to print them out..Mrs. * also gets an email with them. On the top right hand corner it will say a weighted average. If it says proficent than I would go to her office, and if you never met her, just introduce yourself. Say you just took the test and you were just wondering what the next step would be...and you never know she might speak to you at that time.. This has been a dream for me. I am on my second career, was in finance for all these years, but always wanted to go to nursing school. That opportunity was given to me this past year. So hear I am. I'm older than most, turning 48 on the 12th, however, act like I'm 20 sometimes. Well don't worry, think positive and say to yourself you can do it!!! Let me know how it went afterwards...take a deep breath....:yelclap:

Onedayanurse,

Thanks for your help! What about if I'm not proficient should I still see her. Someone posted on this site that MHSON looks at a person as a whole and not based off the TEAS. I hope they're right cause I'm so afraid.

HI nancy,

Yes they do look at the person as a whole.. I would still go in and introduce myself, let her know your scores and what your feeling. Every little bit helps. Don't be nervous. Take a lot of deep breaths and remember you can only do what you can do.. And you can do this!!! I'm cheering for you!!!:dncgbby:

Onedayanurse,

Mucho gracias!! You are too funny and too sweet! :p Do you think they would still accept someone even if they didn't pass the TEAS? Be honest.... PLEASE. Like, after my TEAS I just walk up to Ms. * and ask her to go over the results with me and she sees something in me and we hit it off, she will accept me?? I'vealready talked on the phone with her and had a great conversation. This is so exhausting just thinking about the TEAS. I am so afraid of these kind of pre-admission testing. They don't measure if I can handle the work or studies of a nurse. I want this so bad and I would love to go to Mountainside--I am like 15-20 minutes away. It would be perfect. :yeah: I get so emotional and animated when I talk to people about getting into a nursing program---I feel like this year is my year....but I need the school's help of accepting me...:lol2:

I am very proud of you and you can do it! No or can't is not in our vocabulary or for anyone else. ;)

Lovelymo79,

Hi, how's everything going for you? I read in one of your messages.......

"If you're applying for Mountainside, you will be interviewed. THAT'S where you can really stand out among the crowd. You will get interviewed after you take the entrance exam but that's where you can really shine and let them see you as a whole, not just as a score."

Basically, my next question is, so say you take the entrance test and don't pass over a 70% for ex., will you still qualify for an interview with Ms. *?? My fear is not ppassing with a good score and not being accepted. My exam is this Friday. Any insight would be very appreciated.

Take care,

Nancy

Can you guys tell I am super nervous about this TEAS on Friday....:crying2: A tad paranoid maybe.....:uhoh3:

Hi Nancy,

Yes you are super nervous and stressing which is going to mess you up. the first thing is take the test, to my understanding there is not a specific score, however, the way I understood it was that the weighted score needs to say proficient. No matter what you get on the test, I would just go pop your head in Mrs. * office and introduce yourself. She might see you at that time and may not but you could start off with "just wondering what the next step it"? That may open a conversation. Even if you have the opportunity at that time to speak with her she will not tell you if your accepted, you wait for a letter. Whenever it is that you speak with her make sure you express why it is you want to be a nurse, why is it a dream for you, what in your life, if anything inspired you to have this passion. Oh! your so lucky your close I'm about an hour and ten minutes away. But I want this so bad I will travel...Just focus on the test right now. What study guides are you using, if any?

Nancy,

One more thing, STOP thinking your not going to do well. Keep saying "I can do this, I know I can". I too was super nervous, I'm not the best test taker, but like I said previously I did better than I thought. I believe the proficent level is 60, I think, not a 100% sure. I didn't get a great score so it had to be my interview that scored me a seat in the September class. So just talk to yourself and tell yourself how good your going to do. Positive thought process!!!:lol2:

Hi Francine,

I just want to wish you luck tomorrow. Be yourself, speak from your heart and you will do fine. Let me know how you did...:yeah::nurse:

Specializes in 7.

Thanks onedayanurse. As for you Nancy, don't be nervous ..make sure u remain calm during the test so you can focus. As for me, I live in long island , ny ..I'm 2 hrs away from the school. So I will need to find an apt near the school.

Francine,

Where in Long Island? I grew up in Garden City. I wish I could get an apartment. I have a husband and an 18yr old daughter, however, I plan on staying down there at a hotel in bad weather and the night before clinicals. Hopefully, we all can meet during orientation.
