applying to lone star colleges for fall 09

Published

I'm new to this site. I've been coming here browsing for a while, but I hadn't seen anyone posting yet if they were applying at any of the lone star colleges for fall 2009. I just took my HESI and unfortunately only got an 87.23 so that puts my scores at 11.1892 and I don't think I'll get in now. I'll apply at Montgomery as my first choice, then north harris, tomball, and cy-fair. If I don't get in I guess I'll have to try to either retake the Hesi next semester or retake my english 1301 that I got a B in... this is driving me crazy! I started working on the pre-req's over 5 years ago and stopped to have 3 kids now I'm back in the game and I was so disappointed today after my HESI. The competetiveness is just crazy that a B in one class and a B on one test can pretty much take me out of the running. I'm going to keep my hopes up, but I'd sure like to hear if anyone else is applying and what yall's scores are :wink2:

Hey guys, just a heads up. I went to the information session at Cy Fair today, and they covered the breakdown of the points, and I thought that this might interest some of you who don't know yet.

As far as the HESI goes, while they do test you on math and reading and you must pass both with a 70% or higher, the only one that determines your points is the reading. Take your reading score, divide by 25, and that is your points for that section.

The LVN program uses both, but the ADN does not. I know that my SIL did a happy dance when I told her that, so I thought some of you may be interested to know as well.

Briacarr: how many questions on the math test had to do with conversions? I plan on taking the test tomorrow. I'm good at converting within systems (metric to metric) but sometimes have difficulties converting between systems (metric to english). Were their many questions about that? I'm so nervous about taking this test! Anxiety is starting to set in!

There were a few..but missing a few could lower your score.

I didn't know there would be any on there, but luckily i knew some.

It is metric to metric and metric to english, & no they do not give you a conversion chart lol

Make sure to take your time, because you can only answer each question once.

Good Luck!

Which school are you applying to?

thanks for your help briacarr! I am applying to North Harris as my first choice. I'm hoping I have a better chance getting in since they accept more students. Right now I am at a 7.7 as a score without the HESI test. So I really want to do well on the Reading to get a higher total score. I concentrated so much on the Reading that I didn't realize that there were conversions on the math test until I took the practice test from HESI study guide last night!

Okay guys, I turned in my application today!

~The wait is on~

hey if you don't mind me asking what are your scores and which school was your first choice.

Im applying to Cy-fair with 11.7448. What about you?

what's up girl my scores are not that high so im applying to north harris with a 11.1 but im praying your for sure get in i applied last semester to cy-fair and the cut off was 11.4 which is what it seems to be every semester so the clock is ticking

The days are dragging!!!! I am counting the weeks until we all should know something... hopefully by the 2nd week of April!! Normally, that's when people receive the letters..... I'm a praying maniac right now! LOL....

Ok Guys,, I took the Hesi test and I did fairly well,, I am now at 11.5744. I am praying and hoping to get in at North Harris with those scores... Who else is applying at North Harris?? I would love to try Kingwood or Tomball, but not sure if my scores would get me in the door..So, I think I better stick with North Harris since they accept the most students...

I talked with a lady in the nursing department, and she told me we would receive our letters sometime mid-late April. I don't know how I am going to wait that long!

What is that... like two months? I hope it doesn't drag on as slow as February has. This is sad because it's all I can think about right now but there is absolutely nothing I can do. Actually, I still need to take CPR. Does anybody know where I can go? I don't live that far from Cy-Fair College.

Briacarr: What school did you call?
