Applying to Jeff State CC night/weekend program

Published

Hi All!

Anyone else applying to the part time program at JSCC? I think the apps have to be in by may 12th and the cutoff is around 185. I'm finishing my last prereq this summer (microbiology) and will be applying with 203 points and a 4.0 GPA. I'm hopeful!

I'm curious about clinicals during the night weekend program... I am thinking about taking a new position here at UAB working third shift 11-7 but i'm concerned that this shift might interfere with clinicals. Are the clinicals only on the weekends or are they also during the week and if so, are they later than 10:00pm?

The majority of clinicals are 630-1230 Saturday and Sunday. There was an occasional group that met on a weekday (maybe Wednesday? I don't remember) from about 3-9 (I'm not sure of exact times). They start the second semester, and you will have 6 of them that semester. :)

Oh that's great! OK another question: when do we have to show proof of health insurance? Before we start clinicals or before we start the actual program?

I believe it was before you start clinicals. I had a friend who got health insurance at the end of December. You will hear more about it in orientation, I'm sure :)

Thanks for the info LCP! I know I'll get all this info in a couple of weeks but I figured I'd go ahead and ask in case I should be getting insurance now.

We never met on a Saturday for class. Ever.

Started nursing classes yesterday evening and I already like the instructors for the first year. I was wondering though: for NUR105 there is a guy instructor that takes over... Does anyone know if he will be the instructor for the rest of the program, or just NUR105?

I believe we will have him the entire second year. Since our current instructor teaches the full first year, logistically it would be hard to see how she would teach second years at the same time

I know she won't be teaching the second year. I'm curious though if he teaches the entire second year because I've seen other instructor names... Guess we'll find out.

It's my understanding they are the only n/w instructors, the others teach the FT program :) I could be mistaken though

When I was looking at all the nursing classes for the fall semester I noticed that the night/weekend program chair is the instructor for the NUR 204. If I'm not mistaken I think NUR 204 is one of the classes for the last semester of the program.
